ThinkGeek celebrates 1 April

Ahahaha, go to ThinkGeek while they still have them up and see their April Fools joke products! They include among others:

- the original Plate Shirt
- the edible gummy iPhone cover (check out the flavours; they include fish lips)
- De-3D cinema glasses - watch in the magic of 2D!
- Star Wars Lightsaber popsicles
- Playmobil Apple Store playset (with optional queue)
- Minecraft USB desktop Nether Portal
- for your Easter needs, the Chocolate Zombie Bunny
- Dharma Initiative alarm clock
- Tribbles 'n' Bits Breakfast Cereal (free Captain Pike action figure in each box)
- Wireless Extension Cords

The product pages are even funnier. Click and crack up!

Some of their joke products in the past have become real items due to demand, like the Tauntaun sleeping bag. :-)

I would buy some of those things if they existed and I lived there. Is the Astronaut ice-cream for real? I was tempted to get that but decided they wouldn't ship it here. It's Greg's birthday soon so I put in an order for a slanket (as seen on Big Bang Theory) and three t-shirts: a BBT one (see icon*), Wargames, and a capsaicin molecule--he already has and loved the caffeine one. I'll wear the t-shirt he likes least. Freight is 50% of the total but hey, I only do it for special occasions.

* the rock paper scissor lizard Spock game the characters invented. You really should check that program out: so many geeky fannish references: comics, films, Trek, Battlestar Galactica...

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Astronaut ice cream is a real product. I remember buying it at science museums when I was a kid. Do they just not allow food to shipped in?

And, hey, I have the caffeine shirt, too!

I'm pretty sure I've already got BBT on my Netflix queue somewhere, it's just a question of getting to it.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I know there are whole ranges of products Amazon won't ship overseas (toys, food etc) so I didn't even try. What's it like?

Greg also has the Lost one (which I can no longer find) but he doesn't wear it in public though he loved it too. The caffeine one gets to leave the house in weekends. I suppose it's subtle enough that he doesn't think people will notice him and try to read it. Have you considered the Stark Industries one? ;-)

Re TBBT: It took me about 3 episodes to get to know the characters; they've all really grown on me since. And there are more female ones in the future.

It's not bad, but as I recall it's more interesting for the novelty value than the flavor. :)

And tsk on Greg. I proudly wear my collection of geeky t-shirts everywhere! Well, OK, there are a few really strange ones I don't take out much... :)

Have you considered the Stark Industries one? ;-)

Heh. Tempting, but then comics fans might try to start conversations with me and be disappointed. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, this one has text and pictures people would definitely look at: Oceanic Airlines safety stuff on the front, and a "do not leave the plane series of warnings for things like the Smoke Monster on the back. OK, here's the t-shirt (http://fashionablygeek.com/t-shirts/please-review-the-oceanic-airlines-safety-card/) on a different site (ThinkGeek must have sold out) and showing front and back.

The ones I chose this time would be fine for public wear. I'd wear them (and probably will claim one). I have the "you are here" galaxy one which I've wanted since I saw a guy wearing one about 15 years ago. I followed him and asked him where he'd bought it and he said "New York" to my disappointment, but yay, Think Geek had them (and still does)!

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2011-04-02 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
That Lost shirt is pretty awesome. :)

I used to have a "You Are Here" shirt. I bought it at a Star Trek con when I was maybe 17 and had it for years and years before it finally succumbed to wear.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-04-02 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I had to buy it for him when I saw it, It was on special so I suppose it was an end-of-run. BTW there are quite a few TBBT shirts at ThinkGeek and there's also a site which tells you wear you can buy the cool shirts (fannish or scientific) that Sheldon wears (http://www.sheldonshirts.com/) and some of the other stuff on the series.

I was thinking it was a long time since I saw that shirt, maybe even 20 years, so that fits!

Hahahaha! Thank you!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It livened up a dull evening for me! And still is this morning as I continue to explore.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah! On the tribbles and bits breakfast cereal I clicked on the 'do not click' photo. *giggle*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Very Comic-Book Guy! :-D

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I clicked on Buy Now so I could send a request for the Playmobil Apple Store to become reality. You never know. I thought that was just so cute!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck! Popular products have made it into reality in the past.

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
No! I am supposed to be doing other things and I have now spent many minutes trawling through appealing and desirable but non-existent products! Shame on you and your tempting.

And I reeeeeally want the Playmobil Apple Store, and the optional queue.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you click on Buy Now? Some products have made it to reality when enough people wanted them, and I'd say this one stands a good chance if Apple plays along.

[Edit] And I LOVE that icon!

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2011-04-03 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I did! The tiny 'presentation in progress' and the optional extra queue really sold it for me.

Isn't it neat? [livejournal.com profile] kazzy_cee does some wonderful non-fandom icons.

[identity profile] bramblyhedge.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
XD My favourite is the Arsenic Sea Monkeys ("COMING SOON: Lice - the Sea Monkeys for your head!"). *wipes away tears of laughter*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! There were too many good ones to list.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually Ilike the idea of the zombie bunny and the lightsabre popsicles. One of our local stores has lightsabre lollipops, so hopefully these will become real.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Click "Buy Now" on them to register your interest and encourage them!

I think you could probably mock up a zombie bunny with some coloured icing. :-D

[identity profile] theyarnproject.livejournal.com 2011-04-04 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Chocolate Zombie Bunny...LOL!!!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-04-04 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose you could make one by adding coloured icing (frosting?). :-D

[identity profile] theyarnproject.livejournal.com 2011-04-04 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe.
