Goodbye, Vic

I put off posting about this for several days.

Vic got much worse last week and stopped eating altogether, then disappeared for two days. We wondered if we'd see him again, but he turned up in the evening and we brought him inside. We could tell he was like Claudia was in her last few days last year--thin, weak, finding it hard to walk, and not even wanting to drink--so we cuddled him and talked to him and decided that if he was still there in the morning we'd take him to the vet. He was in the garden (it's very warm these days) so we took him in. He was very calm and purring when we stroked him, and I think he knew. The vet was very gentle and said he was ready to go.

So goodbye, Vic. You had a very good life after you turned up here and decided to stay. :-)

He did. I know he appreciated our company and cuddles. I think that's why he came back and I'm glad he did.

Poor Vic. You gave him a fun, cared for life once he had come to you and a dignified death. That is all a human can do and a pet can ask for. I am sure you'll find another nice cat soon - not to replace Vic but to carry on the good work. Not everyone is such a good owner.

Thanks. I think we'll stay with two cats unless another one turns up needing a home like Vic did. There's no such thing as replacing a pet anyway. Each one is so different, as you'll know well.

What a sad day for you.

It was, though we were glad he turned up and not knowing where he was would have been worse.

Poor Vic, and poor you. Losing a loved one is always painful.

It is, and it's happened too often in the last three years.

I'm so sorry you lost The Thug. I delighted in your pictures and stories of him. Good-bye, darling Vic.

I used to tell him he had a world-wide fan club.

*Hugs* So sorry he's gone; he was a very wise cat to adopt you and Greg.

He was indeed wise; he let us catch him when he got an infected paw and from them on he became our cat.

Awww, thanks! [hugs back] He was the wild cat who learned to trust, purr, and play. He was a real softie.

Poor Vic. I'm sorry you've lost another friend, but it sounds as if you all knew it was time, and it was a gentle ending to a good life.

*hugs* Vic was a good friend, and you and Greg were good friends to him. He will always have a place in your hearts.

He will indeed. I often think of the cats I've known and loved.

No doubt Claudia and Tessa will be welcoming him.

:-) Claudia will stand in the gateway and go "Yow!" like she did here to tease him and pretend to stop him coming in. But of course she'll let him.

He is. He had a happy life after he found us, so I take comfort in that.

Oh, he was a gorgeous cat and clearly happy. Commiserations.

Thanks. He was a very happy and serene cat, and we often remembered what he was like when he turned up: wild, frightened, and unable to purr, trust, or play. He learned all of those things and became very affectionate.

I'm sorry to hear you've lost another one- the house will feel quite different now. At least you had the chance to say goodbye to him properly, and he was with people he trusted.

It does feel different. We were so glad he came back to be with us at the end.

I'm so sorry, this is always so hard. But he had many good years with you, and you'll remember that in the end.

We do, and it's a comfort.

Thanks. But knowing that another starving stray has been lucky like him makes me feel a lot happier.
