The BBC Song list

[livejournal.com profile] communicator made a list of everything mentioned in Mitch Benn's song: 148 TV and radio shows and people. Awww, they drew a little Liberator on the Blake's 7 card. :-D

OK, I don't live in the UK which is going to skew things a lot, but we buy a lot of BBC programmes here (even though the BBC won't let me onto the sites of those we buy).

I've italicised the programmes (and people) I've watched or listened to, bolded the ones I love, and struck out those I've never heard of.

On second thoughts, it may have been only our version of That Was The Week That Was that I've seen, but I'll leave it there since it was based on the BBC concept.

Most of the people are presenters or DJs, like Brian Cant used to present children's programmes in the 70s, and Ken Bruce does a show in the mornings on Radio 2.
I adore Horrible Histories (I watched it last night) it is designed to get children interested in the more disgusting or amusing parts of history - I posted a video once, I don't know if you can see it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPtYmq5qFVA
Armstrong and Miller and Mitchell and Webb are very funny comedy duos, but they are actors as well so you may have seen them crop up in other things.
The Hairy Bikers are fab, two big bears of hairy men on motorbikes who go around the country and the world cooking on the go - I fancy them both rotten ;0)
Who do you think you are follows famous people finding out their family tree, so naturally I love that

Oh they are great :0) Their recent series was going around and collecting old family recipes

The Stephen Fry episode was very moving indeed, most people cried.

that sounds good, it's very easy for traditional recipes to be lost

So you don't know the news programmes and their presenters, children's presenters and their programmes and edgy comedians. Seems reasonable.

the iPlayer is Listen Again for TV. And you'd have loved Johnny Ball's stuff.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-10-15 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, we have our own for all of those.

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2010-10-15 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
And now I've actually watched it I want someone to produce a list of all those programmes mention in the last verse without captions. They included Z Cars and Eric (Morecambe)& Ernie (Wise).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-10-15 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I know those two!

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2010-10-15 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] jekesta introduced me to Horrible Histories (I found some on You Tube) they're wonderful!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen the books and often read them in the book shop. :-)

The video versions are fantastic. :^) I can't decide which are my favorites- perhaps the series of bios of English royalty. The singing Tudors... oh, yes. And the four Georges!

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
The four Georges rock!

[identity profile] muscadinegril.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
We adore the BBC. There are shows that aren't listed that my kids are growing up on, like Wallace and Gromit and Sean the Sheep (CBeebies covers those, I suppose). And there's Ashes to Ashes and Are You Being Served? and all the great Mystery shows and Elizabeth R and...and...

The BBC needs to live forever. What would there be to watch without it?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
We have DVDs of all the Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep series. :-D I remember Elizabeth R if that was the one with Glenda Jackson. It was superb; I would watch that again. I need to get out the I Claudius DVDs because Greg's never seen it.

[identity profile] jhall1.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
That's excellent! I must confess that not only hadn't I heard that song before but I hadn't even heard of Mitch Benn.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
I hadn't before today either!

[identity profile] ultrapsychobrat.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
I read through the list and just kept the ones I have seen through the years.
