Local weather and elections

It's a blustery and occasionally wet Sunday as a storm the size of Australia passes over, which means that it's not worth going out to Ardmore for the Battle of Britain air show, dammit. They have the Warbirds (vintage war planes) there and it would have been wonderful in decent weather. We wouldn't be able to see them with the rain and low clouds. :-(

Anyway. We have local elections on across the country and there's a Jedi standing in the Waitemata and Gulf ward. "He is encouraging voters to strike back against dull, traditional candidates and support his policies. These include light sabre-based progress, the formation of a Rebel Alliance against the political clone army and light-speed local infrastructure." :-D Pity it's not my ward or I'd vote for him, but the Orakei guy saying he will fight "council stupidity" among other things will probably get my vote.

A poll on Auckland's mayoral campaign has Bob Parker way out in front, and he's not even standing. He's the mayor of Christchurch who has been so impressive after the earthquake. Auckland would be his if he wanted it, which I doubt. :-)

what a shame you didn't get to go to the air show

Well, he certainly looks like a Jedi. He should go for mayor next time around. I don't have anyone that exciting to vote for...

Sorry your weather has been uncooperative, making you miss fun things. :(

It's done that a lot this year or two. :-(

I'd like Bob Parker to run for office here! We're due for a state election in NSW in early 2011 and he is very impressive.

Christchurch to Sydney's not all that far to commute. :P

I doubt he'd be convinced. :-) In the meantime we have two major mayoral candidates, neither of whom are any good. Typical. I think our best mayor was Robbie, Dove Myer Robinson, but he was a long time ago. We need someone with vision like he had.

Ah, bad luck, I am sorry you will not see that air show! Being a vintage planes fan too, I understand your frustration very well.
Your Jedi would need a whole army of the Knights to mowe the political rotten waters. It is always the same... Just wait, next month we will have similar elections - with a similar situation:-(

I hope he gets a seat on the council anyway. Maybe enough dissatisfied people in his area will vote for him.

So good luck!

The weather has been crazy, hasn't it. :( I seriously thought a window might break at one point (it didn't).

A local Jedi candidate, tee hee. :-p

I'm glad all our trees are still standing. We've had two come down in and beside our driveway this year.

I'm sorry you've had trees come down. :(

Oh yes, and bare feet. :-)

I'm sorry you missed your air show; it's aggravating when you have to miss fun things because of weather. That happened quite a bit for me, this summer. I hope your storm didn't cause any damage - we had a freak storm in the middle of the week with some tornados touching ground in the outer boroughs. Tako hid in the kitchen because he didn't like the sound of the wind and rain.

We've missed a lot of outdoor events in the last year. It's so frustrating. The gale's still blowing; it's going to take a while to pass over.
