Day 29 - Peel and Parker

I thought I'd draw Emma Peel from The Avengers and Ms Parker from The Pretender (who was slightly based on Mrs Peel) for [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo today. I'm not that happy with it but I'm not doing anything else now. I played with the background, thinking I'd go for a 60s-style op-art effect but in the end a fairly plain one looked best.

That's Parker in the icon. I must make an Emma Peel one.

Peel and Parker

My NaArMaMo 2010 Gallery is here.

Actually, you've got the expressions and attitudes nicely captured here.

I've never watche3d the Pretender so I can't comment but you have Mrs Peel to a T. She has that slightly quizical slightly smug look that we often saw in the series.

I'm quite pleased with their faces. I'm not sure I got Emma's body right. I had to make a fair bit of it up.

That's Parker in the icon BTW. :-)

I did see some episodes of The Avengers on the Austrian TV many many years ago and BW but wow, Emma is back here! And Ms Parker, oh indeed, that cold look and elegance...
Also the colours are perfect!

Thank you! So you know both series? :-) I wasn't expecting many people to know who Ms Parker was.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2010-08-29 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Surprisingly I know both. And Ms Parker drives me crazy sometimes:-)
The Pretender is a very good one!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-29 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It is! I'll have to get back to watching it.

They are both absolutely spot on. Love the work on the eyes, particularly Emma's.

Thank you! I keep seeing things I should fiddle with, but I have to stop somewhere.

I don't know Parker either, but I adore Emma Peel and her stance and expression here are excellent--I love her sixties body suit too.

Ms Parker (no first name) reminded me so much of Emma Peel, especially with the slight flick to her hair in some eps, and I heard she was a homage. She lacks Emma's whimsical expression and lightness, but I like her for her cold, hard, but hurt-underneath self.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2010-08-29 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Emma. She was one of the earliest kick-arse ladies I can remember. You did a great job with her (I don't know the other show, so can't judge resemblance, but I love the pose Ms Parker is in- a 'Make my Day' casual confidence.)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-29 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I adore Emma! The amazing thing is, she still looks as timelessly elegant and beautiful with her understated makeup and simple hairstyle; the guest dolly-birds in the series haven't always fared as well.

Ms Parker is harder and colder, but she gets some wonderful snarky lines. Her general look reminded me of Emma, and apparently it was intentional. She would be a good match for Avon. She's biting.

Wow, spot on

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-29 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

Oh, I should have thought of Mad Men! Betty in one of her gathered floral dresses and white gloves (perhaps with a rifle and a martini) would be so much fun, as would Don and Peggy and Joan. Maybe I'll have a go at them when I feel like doing some art.

[identity profile] communicator.livejournal.com 2010-08-30 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
That would be a real treat. There are some good Mad Men inspired hand drawings online: the aesthetic is so vivid, such an important part of the show (as with The Avengers).

I just love Emma Peel's hair. And her expression and her casually curled left hand.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-30 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, esp since I find hands so hard to do. :-)

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2010-08-30 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Now, that is a formidable combination!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-30 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I think Sydney and Steed would make a great team too!

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2010-08-30 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
That would be awesome! Are you going to draw that next? :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-30 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
I have to do the last ABC today (oh joy), then the completion banner tomorrow. Which I have no ideas about. But I should try to keep up my art throughout the year. I'll put that one on my list to do as soon as I get the urge! :-)

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2010-08-30 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! It's in the potential post-NaArMaMo art queue! :)

[identity profile] luinielle.livejournal.com 2010-08-31 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Lovely! I think you've captured both likenesses very well. I love the way you've done their hair and I love Parker's pose. That's a cooll background, too. :o)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-31 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I experimented with lots of backgrounds but that fairly plain one looked best. :-)

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2010-08-31 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
Nicely done... they aren't ladies to mess with, that's for sure. XD

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-31 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
Though I'd be happy to spend a day with Emma.
