Day 25 - Mercedes Jones and Sue Sylvester from Glee

I picked two favourite female characters from Glee for naarmamo today. They're the wonderful Mercedes Jones, who doesn't get anywhere near enough solos (her "I bust the windows of your car" is magnificent) and the love-to-hate cheerleader coach Sue Sylvester who would probably win gold in the snark Olympics even against House and Avon.

It took me ages to get her expression right.

Drawing people is my first love in art. I've deliberately tried to do other things for practice, but I've missed this.

*nods* that's me and animals. I tried to do other stuff, but animals are so much easier for me I revert to them when tired or bored or lazy. :^)

I actually find animals hard, much as I love them. I can use one as a model or a photo as a reference, but I'm hopeless drawing from imagination. I get the proportions all wrong.

I have to agonize over it to make a person look right even with a photo reference. We specialize. ;^)

I have yet to watch the show so I don't know the characters, but I love your drawing. I like the expressions on both women's faces and I love the facial and hair shading. Do you draw and colour everything with the tablet?

Thank you! I do, yes. It's so much easier when you can use layers and erase mistakes easily. I do the lines and colouring fairly quickly, but I often change my mind about something and it's so easy to alter.

Wow, what a great unexpected art post from you! I totally agree. My dad is really into Glee but missed a bunch of the earlier episodes, so we've been watching the ones he missed. We just got to the one where Mercedes rocked the ballad (that later got given to Rachael ANYWAY because the set list got leaked) and I'm just constantly impressed how good she is and how underutilized she is. This is a great picture for both of them!!

Yay, someone who knows them! Mercedes is just as good as Rachel, and a hell of a lot less annoying. I prefer her style, in singing, clothes, and everything.

I thought I'd draw Sue because she's an interesting character, then I decided to add lovely Mercedes as contrast because I love her. There should be a lot more of Merc in the show.

Thanks! They do have a lot of character in the show which is why I wanted to fraw them.

I love drawing people! I've tried to practise other things, and maybe spent too long away, because this is what I like doing best. I should try some different techniques; maybe next year. This one is fairly easy.
