Day 14 - D is for domed city

Another SF ABC for [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo today. I considered doing a certain dome from SF, but it's really more a huge domed building. This city is one I know well, but in the bright colours of a happy future.

D is for domed city

My NaArMaMo 2010 Gallery is here and my SF ABC Gallery is here.

that is a happy looking domed city

That's lovely. You should make postcards of it.

People could trade and collect them!

I thought I might see if any publisher is interested, though I'd have to file the serial numbers off some and redo them all in a larger size and higher resolution.

If you're serious about the publisher, I'd lock all the posts. Many publishers consider "available online" to mean "already published".

I'd only be showing some as examples; I'd be redoing them all anyway.

[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel and I have just been looking through them all again. They're so delightful. I think a children's publisher would snap this up as a book (and fridge magnets, and cards, and, and...!).

Thanks! I'll give it a try. I have no idea how to go about contacting publishers though. Can one e-mail them, or does it have to be snail mail?

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
This will be one of those 'it depends' answers: most publishers have specific submission instructions. Also, the bigger the publisher, the more likely you'll need to find an agent to represent you first - many large publishers won't deal with direct enquiries any longer. A small publisher might not have the market push, but you'll have more chance of getting some kind of response.

If there's a NZ equivalent of this (http://www.writersandartists.co.uk/shop/), that might be a good place to start, either finding agents who handle children's books, or publishers who will take submissions directly. (It's like pitching any project: the more research you do, the better your chances of success.)

Please keep on asking questions if you need to: I'll do my best to answer them.

I think that's a wonderful idea.

I love the way you do your letters--following the shades of the city picture.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It's fun working out what to do with the letters.

Oh that is great. Much nicer than the Blake's 7 one.

Most places would be! Thanks. :-)

Perfect weather every day! Yay!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I should have put rain outside the dome! Maybe I'll add some.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, or Snow! Make it like an inside-out Snowglobe. :^)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's rain I hate, and I haven't done rain in the ABC. I'll have a go sometime.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It'll be interesting to see how you depict it. The dome adds a level of complexity- do you show rain hitting it and bouncing off, or sliding over the curve in front or what?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know. It might not work at all. Maybe I'll just make the sky greyer with one rain cloud.

[identity profile] ultrapsychobrat.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
This is great--I might even like to live in this one.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I can guarantee the water and food isn't drugged!

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Lovely! :)

I'm sure some JAFA's would like the city like that, cut off from everything else in NZ. :-p

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Less rain and wind (another tree came down here this weekend) would be very nice!

[identity profile] luinielle.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Lovely dome city! I love the way you drew and coloured the trees and the buildings.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! The buildings looked as if they needed some trees to soften them.
