Vic-in-a-box

I took a photo of Vic at the window yesterday (pity he wasn't doing that elongated sphinx thing along the sill) and also realised that I hadn't posted the one of him in a box.

The box was around for a few weeks and during the World Cup was referred to as a goal. Vic fills it so he'd make a good keeper.

The bite marks are from the girls who chew cardboard--and paper for that matter. This box survived a while with its flaps folded in. Those things on the floor in the background are cat toys; they're all over this room. :-P

Vic sits and looks at the closed Venetian blinds in the morning till I open them and raise them enough to for him (and the girls) to look out or sun themselves. Enjoy it, Vic. I won't be doing that in summer.

what is it with cats and boxes?
I love it when a large cat is in a much smaller box

Oh, Vic is wonderful--such a boy!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I knew you'd enjoy seeing him!

[identity profile] ultrapsychobrat.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
And I do!

D'AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. <3333333333333 PAWSES. Noki is still miffed that I took my TARDIS playset box off the floor; she loved hiding in it because it had a window and everything.

How old is Vic now?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
He's 10. We found him as a "teenager" of less than a year in 2000, and gave him a birthday of 1/1/2000. :-)

Lovely pics - love the cat-in-a-box. :D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
They all spent time in there, and the girls would play, one in side and one on top, till it started to collapse.

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Vic looking out of the window is really touching, somehow.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
He's able to go out! He just likes being inside in the arm and looking out. :-)

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, I didn't mean that he was a poor little cat yearning for the great outdoors, but there's something about the little pleasures animals have that I find oddly moving. The fact that he just likes to sit there, enjoying the view, is adorable.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
It is! They look straight out onto trees with birds, and I think that interests them more than the view over the city. That's what he's looking at there. :-) Tessa used to make little clicking sounds that meant "Ooh, bird!", which always amused me.

Catspeak! Mowgli has a funny little chirrupy wail that means "That dog's put his mouth round my head again!"

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, poor Mowgli! Our cats have special noises they make when they see each other and us, but Ashley's "Hello, I'm here again!" sounds very like her "I've got a lizard, come and see!"

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, poor Mowgli!

Sometimes I think he actually likes it. He and Flan have a kind of S&M relationship - Wolfgang says he always feels faintly embarrassed when he comes into a room and interrupts the two of them in one of their bizarre games. Mowgli's perfectly capable of scratching Flan when he wants to, but mostly he just bats him with his paws, which Flan takes - rightly, I think - as an invitation to continue his attentions.

It's left Mowgli convinced that dogs are all old softies underneath. We took him to the vet's once, and the waiting room was stuffed with badly behaved dogs, barking and yowling and trying to fight with each other. The only other cat was terrified, but Mowgli was completely relaxed, and pressed his face up against the bars for a scratch and then went to sleep. I suppose if all your experience with dogs is that they want to put their jaws around your head but they won't actually bite, it gives you a certain amount of confidence.

What a sweet pair!

People think cats and dogs are natural enemies, but when I was a kid, we always had one of each. I also have a great photo of my brother's kitten curled up in the curve of tail of his dog.

My guys don't seem to notice dogs at the vet; I think they're just part of that place they hate to go to.

Oh, how gorgeous! That photo should probably come with a warning: contains lethal levels of sweetness.

I can see how if you have a general hatred of the vet's, a few dogs here or there make no real difference.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
The kitten is actually quite hard to see at first for springer spaniel! It's a hard copy so I'd have to find it. :-P

Aww. Hello Vic!

That's a very pointed routine he has there :-D Has he been doing that long (waiting for you to open the blinds)?

I thought Vic mostly stayed outside of his own preference? Is he feeling the cold a bit these days?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
Only since the girls have been here and interested in looking out. He caught the habit from them. :-)

[identity profile] bramblyhedge.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
Vic is so elegant! It's funny how cats all love to sit in boxes and bags and tiny drawers and other awkward places. XD

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
It must be a cave or den instinct.

Ha! I just realised I can see Vic faintly reflected in that window!

Great pictures. Vic looks so self-contained and cat like.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
He used to be quite shy but has became very smoochy and purry in the last couple of years.

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Vic is adorable.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
He takes a good photo!

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Vic is just so handsome! I love how sparkling white his white is, and how absolutely black the black is. :^)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It always intrigues me that the demarcation is so definite in places. I just noticed that he's sitting on black and the sill is white. :-) Did you see his faint reflection in the window?

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I saw his reflection, the angle makes it look like a man's face with parted hair to me. :^)

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
He's lovely. I like the way he puts his front paws on the sill. It looks very human. :¬D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I have another one of him doing that (http://pics.livejournal.com/vilakins/pic/002bgps5). :-)

[identity profile] luinielle.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Vic is so handsome. He looks so content sitting in the window area and looking out the window. I love the photo of him in the box with the bite marks.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
I think he's the only one who didn't bit the box! (Besides us, I mean.)
