Day 8 - Window-box

For [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo today I decided to have a go with Artrage's oils. A few weeks ago [livejournal.com profile] linda_joyce took a lovely photo of her neighbour's window and window-box and kindly said I could use it as the basis for art this month.

Also, happy birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] reapermum and [livejournal.com profile] vandonovan. :-)

Window-box

The original had darker window frames and also white-painted stonework, but I decided to go a little brighter and make it easy on myself and turn the wall into stucco. That was fun: squeeze lots of paint out of tubes then smoosh it with a palette knife.

My NaArMaMo 2010 Gallery is here.

This is utterly charming. And the stucco totally makes it. What a wonderful idea!

I was very pleased with the stucco. It was an experiment which worked, and the last thing I did.

It's not stucco it's sandstone blocks painted white but it does look like stucco in the photo and that's why I said you had the texture perfectly in my comment.

I know it was blocks and I didn't want to try to depict those. This was the easy way out.

Absolutely gorgeous!! I love the wall texture and the bright colors.

And thank you!

Thank you! It's such fun software, and really cheap too.

I suppose you had the best part of your birthday with your friends and that TARDIS cake. :-)

Wowzies!! You are so clever with textures! Also the shine on the windowpanes is a great touch. :) I could never get the hang of paints (pencil only for me) and have such admiration for people who can paint. *_*

I had several goes with a 'dry brush' and white 'paint' on the windows till I got the streaks to look right. The undo command is my friend. :-D I have to say it's a lot easier with simulated paints then real ones. I'll have to try the pencils and other media out.

Textures! I love textures, and that stucco is terrific!

It was just two colours smooshed around a bit! I love the effect though.

You've got the wall texture perfectly and the rest of it is excellent too.

Thanks, also for the lovely photo! I'm fairly pleased as it came out pretty much as what I'd imagined. There are mistakes I could go on correcting but as my art teacher said, they make it look like art and not a photo.

Great colors! The flowers and window frame are so vibrant, and perfectly set off by the subtle shadings in the stucco.

I liked the holiday look. In the photo there was a sun umbrella reflected in the windows but I wasn't even going to attempt that.

Our window frames are as bright on the outside: a Greek blue. :-)

Lovely picture and thank you for the good wishes.
