Headhunter (406)

I don't much like this episode, but I will say that it's a good one for Orac. The little plastic rat actually behaves quite well in this.

I agree with what he says to Avon at the very end, though it's a case of the pot calling the kettle arrogant. I also note that Tarrant appears to have helped Vila into his suit. Perhaps he was grateful for having his life saved despite his words at the time. I felt rather sorry for Vena. Why was she even in the script, except to die?

I'm not entirely sure how the robot managed to attach a human head and talk through it, but Muller wasn't a very good designer if the inhibitor unit was so easily removed--and it can't have worked properly anyway or the android would have kept its head.

Doesn't Orac try to get Avon to sacrifice Tarrant and Vila at one point, though? (and Avon refuses, which to my mind is a lot more likely than what he does in Orbit: not that he's a nice guy but he does have lines he doesn't care to cross).

Daft sort of ep, but it does fall into the pattern of those eps in S4 where Avon is looking ever more desperately for the Ultimate Hi-Tech that's going to solve everything. When they're not doing that, generally disastrously, they're escaping from things or people.

I think Orac knew what was on the ship (though why the hell didn't he say instead of hint?) But Avon didn't think his life was in danger. If he had, it might have been another matter, though he sounds so odd in Orbit, I think it was very hard for him.

Yes, it's a typical bleak S4 ep where they either fail miserably or end up back where they started.

Yeah, in Orbit, I think he goes into forced compartmentalization to try to get himself to do something he hates doing. Thus sounding so crazy Vila knew he was in danger.

I don't agree with Darrow's interpretation of Avon off-screen, but he does play him well, especially there. That odd voice was a very good touch. I agree with you: he was in conflict with himself and it showed.

::nod:: Darrow seemed to have an instinct that made Avon really resonate with people of a similar type, which makes his inability to understand and explain the character bizarre.

It might be watched by a crowd of people with enough alcohol and snacks to fuel them. Vila in the cupboard does make me laugh.
