Day 6 - Jasmin among the books

For [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo today it's time to play with Artrage 3 since I've now sorted out the tablet problems it was having. Last night Jasmin jumped up into the bookcase above the fridge (as she often does) and went to sleep there. She looked so cute I went to get my camera, but of course she woke up. The photo was cute enough to have a go at drawing though.

And a happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] bramblyhedge! I have you have a great day. :-)

Jasmin among the books

I have two rows of recipe books with the first being the ones I use most often. so that's why there are some behind her; it's a deep shelf. I used Artrage's ink pen on the technical setting and watercolours which was fun and frustrating as well when they got all muddied and hard to blend. Artrage really does simulate media well.

My NaArMaMo 2010 Gallery is here.

She looks like she's just woken up - relaxed and a bit drowsy :)

Adorable! Books and cats are the best combination ever. :)

They are, even if they're recipe books. But then there's no room for her on my other bookshelves.

Perhaps it's a subtle hint about feeding her?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm not cooking for her! Tuscan and Florentine medleys by Fancy Feast are good enough. :-)

Thank you - I had a really good day (and rather a lot to eat XD).

Neat pic - the shading looks sort of watercolour-ish. And you've captured Jasmin's expression very well. =^.^=

You can eat anything on a birthday!

The oil brushes look completely different. It's very cool (and cheap) software--and written here!

AWWWW

I don't know which I love more, books or cats.

Books. Cats. Booooooks. Cats. Wait...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
Why not both? A good book and a purring cat on your lap are hard to beat. In fact it was hard to read without sweet little Tessa as well, not that I minded.

[identity profile] emerald-happy.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes both would be good. I was playing the "You can only have one or the other game" with a bunch of people and I narrowed it down to those two and stopped.

I mostly walk around and read but watching Kung Fu Panda with Onyx on my knee was one of the highlights of last month. Though I ended up paying more attention to scritching his ears than watching the movie. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
That was a great film. I adored the tiger (and the panda too of course). :-)

Aww, she's lovely.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I liked the look of watercolours for this one.

Oh my, this is such a sweet, lovely face! I love the paws hanging over the shelf, I love the pink cushions, I love the amber eyes and the nose and the whiskers and the ears...simply, I am in love with this picture and your Jasmine.
Books definitely suit her!
Can I send your picture to my daughter?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course you can! I'd be flattered.

She likes books and knitting too, snuggling up in it.

Aww. She looks so smug and happy. I like the watercolor effects.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I like them too! It's fun to experiment without having to throw paper out when I make a mistake.

Awww, great colors and wonderful expression on her face, and I love the claws and paw pads.

I must go back to check out Artrage again- I downloaded the free starter edition and did one picture, liked it, and forgot about it... oh, person of little brain.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a lot of fun. It will never replace Photoshop or GIMP because it's designed purely for art, and I think it mimics the different media well. It's surprisingly cheap! You don't get watercolour in version 2 but you do in 3 so I was convinced to upgrade when they gave me a discount. I like the ink pen a lot too. In 2 you still get oil or acrylic (depending on your brush setting, like whether the paint dries instantly or not), chalk, pencil, crayon etc. I am also impressed with how the behaviour of the medium changes when going over existing colour: adding colour on another layer then merging down and attempting to blend just isn't the same. I admit I had to erase colour in places when it got a bit muddy and try again.

This is beautiful. I love the watercolour effect, especially on Jasmin.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I chose it because I just wanted to use soft colours on the books in the background. Jasmin was the hardest part because of blending shadows and highlights in.

Very cute!

Thanks! :-)
