Well done, Spain!

YAY! Viva Espana! I'm very glad they won though I doubted they would for most of the game, they muffed so many attempts at goal. [dances] They're a lovely team who play a nice clean game, though this one wasn't. We will be having some of our chocolate World Cup tonight in celebration, though it seems a pity to break it.

Most of the game was very lack-lustre so I took pictures of the cats.

Two photos of unimpressed cats and a feline goalie

Jasmin on the sound system and Vic warming his bum on the Apple TV after being outside during the second half while we were hoping, like the commentator, that a football game might break out. That's a Linux penguin to the right of Jasmin.

Goalie Ashley! We have some ping-pong balls marked like soccer ones, and Ashley loves them. We could hear her whacking one round the TV room last night after we went to bed, and I had a lively game with her this morning after the match. She's on the heat pad here, and I put the ball beside her, but when I took the photo she had moved it to a much better position. There's a blanket draped behind and over her because she and Jasmin love being partially covered in this cold weather, so it's rather like a goal. :-)

[Edit] Iker Casillas got Golden Gloves as best goalie, David Villa got Silver Boot and Bronze Ball as striker and player, and the whole team got the Fair Play award. I'm very pleased with "my" team whom I've supported since they did so well in 2008.

Ahahahah, such cute kitties. Much more interesting to me than football. Hee. Ashley's coat is so lovely and full of nice contrasts. Your poor little cold kitties. I love so much that you have a bunch of warm stuff for them to snuggle up on.

It was (is) nice and warm in the TV room, but they persist in going outside for long periods and coming with cold ears and paws.

Ashley's coat is beautiful with its colouring and plush softness. I love to rub my face against her.

Total sympathy for the felines, not a very good game. The Guardian has been doing a live minute by minute report for each game, and the snark was flying.
Paul the Octopus seems to have come out the big winner :) The third place game yesterday was very entertaining though.

In the winter, my cats go out for as long as they can stand it, then come in and snooze on top of/in front of the heat registers.

Jasmin and Vic both love to sit on the Apple TV after being out. I've never seen Ashley there though.

The third place game yesterday was very entertaining though.

It was! Often the 3rd/4th place game is better than the final, and it certainly was here. I was impressed too that they did well despite the rain and the soft pitch.

I'm glad Spain won, esp after all those Dutch fouls, but it wasn't any fun to watch.

Gosh, Ashley's getting big! She looks like a proper grown-up cat!

I think Paul has been the star of this World Cup.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-07-12 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
She's only just over 3kg, so she's a small cat, and lighter than Jasmin who's about the same size. But yes, she looks like an adult now she's over two; I don't think they have their full growth till then.

I do wonder if Paul affects superstitious players. His picks for the last few games matched mine, which pleased me.

Apparently octopuses have colour vision, and it's been suggested that he might have preferred the colours of the teams that won.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-07-12 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I thought--that he likes red and yellow and dislikes green and blue--but someone else plus the Wiki page said he was colour-blind and that he might go for contrast and horizontal lines. I thought their eyes were very close to ours, but maybe they just look like ours. Or I'm thinking of squid.

I'm afraid he did for the Germans.

Such cute kitties--definitely better than World Cup. Ashley's eyes are gorgeous!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-07-12 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
There were some good games, but this wasn't one. Players usually get too nervous and defensive in the finals. I'm just glad it didn't go to penalties.

Ashley is adorable.

Ashley can haz Whirlled Cup?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-07-12 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
She's a good striker and goalie, an all-round player, so yes! She doesn't get any of the chocolate one though because it's poisonous for cats.

I started off supporting the Netherlands on the grounds that they were the underdogs, but they were such thugs that I soon switched my allegiance. Well done, Spain!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-07-12 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
I supported Spain from the start because I was so impressed with them when they won Euro 2008. Sneijder didn't seem too bad, but in general the Netherlands team were very dirty players and I was so relieved it didn't go to penalties (as was Casillas going by his tears of happiness when Iniesta scored).

YAY KITTIES

That is all :-)

You can tell I'm not interested in football, right? teehee

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-07-12 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry; I hardly ever post about it except for the Euro and World Cups.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2010-07-13 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Playing football with the cat is more entertaining than watching it on TV.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-07-13 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
It was in this case, but they only play for a few minutes before being distracted and running off.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2010-07-13 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
I have to cenfess that in spite of The Finale, I got bored and went to go on ironing...
Ahhh...your cats are adorable as usual!
Cold there...hot here...and soon it will be reversed...Crazy world:-)!
Mňau to you from Tygr and Nácíček!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-07-13 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
I admit that I came in here to look at LJ for a while. I'm glad I was watching when Iniesta scored, and did from then on.

It's been cold here, but I like crisp, fine weather. It can't last.

[identity profile] luinielle.livejournal.com 2010-07-15 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, your Jasmine and Vic look quite disinterested in the game. :o) Ashley is such a beautiful cat - her markings are just gorgeous.

There's a blanket draped behind and over her because she and Jasmin love being partially covered in this cold weather...
Yesterday, I went to pick up our lightweight comforter that was partially on the floor and noticed it was a bit heavier than usual. I knelt down to untangle it and a very indignant Oliver meowed at me. Silly kit was all bundled in there and it's definitely not cold here.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-07-15 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Tessa used to do that when it was hot: burrow under a duvet. I think she thought, "I'm uncomfortable so I'll go to a comforting place." I think we feel the heat and cold more than they do though; it's a very bad design that we don't have fur. Our lot run about in the night by choice when they could be in here in the warm, and it's been close to freezing lately.
