Soccer and Daleks (and yes, even together!)

We might be out of the World Cup, but we left unbeaten! We didn't win any matches, but hey, we didn't lose any either and we were playing some major teams. In fact we actually did better than Itaky, hwo are out too, since they lost to Paraguay. :-) We did pretty well for a small country that doesn't play much soccer.

Man, the Italian coach for England, Fabio Capello, has that indefinable but very Italian style (which turns out to be Marks and Sparks). No shapeless training outfits for him and his team who all turn up in grey suits too. :-)

And now for the crossovery goodness. [personal profile] astrogirl posted a wonderful and very funny Doctor Who/Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fic for Multiverse5000, Does the Doctor Know Where His Towel Is?, all in perfect Guide style.

In honour of that, here's a brilliant fan-made vid, Doctor Who: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Daleks, narrated in an excellent Peter Jones-y voice. You may have to stop this to catch all the details, like the anagrams, the stairlessness of Skaro, the Mark Three War Bastard, and the teams Davros played for:

Skaro Orient: striker
Kaled United: right wing
Kaled Wednesday: midfield
Aston Villa (ha!): striker
Bunker: striker
Bunker: goalkeeper

I thought the New Zealand match against Italy was brilliant - what a performance, the team can be really proud of themselves

Thanks! I'm sure this will really give the game here a lot of impetus.

Aww, thanks for the rec! :)

And that Hitchhikers Dalek thing is awesome, isn't it?

Every time anyone says 'Dalek' I keep thinking of the one which is hiding out in a bookshop in Cecil Court off Charing Cross Road. Not sure why it's there but I must ask if I can take a photo of it next time I am nearby.

Over my time in London I have collected quite a collection of Sci Fi Baddies who have turned up here unnoticed. We had Replicators and Autons in a shop window the other day and Louise Borgoise's spider at the Tate a while back was very Big Bertha from Sanctuary.

Hey thanks for the A&S! Thank Vila for me too :-)

And man, if Italy hadn't been awarded that penalty (dubious at best) or we'd managed to get that near second goal, we'd be ahead of Slovakia and going forward. I'm still happy with not being beaten though.

And bah at two of the matches today being played for a deliberate 0-0 draw.

It's incredibly well done: graphics, text, and voice.

When I saw a green drink, how could I resist? :-D

Gooood idea. Z's last exam today and so we're having a sort-of-party. There's chocolate brownie fridge cake and strawberries in the fridge and green sambuca sounds a good idea....

That all sounds excellent!
