Chocolate World Cup

I went to the Nosh gourmet supermarket today, and they had chocolate soccer balls (though the normal pentagon-hexagon kind, not the weird Jabulani ball)... and a chocolate World Cup.

Behold!

I mean, how could I resist? I've put it away until the day. :-)

The ones on the right are chocolate with a creamy filling, and I think the ones on the left are solid chocolate; I haven't tried them yet.

Oh, those are frabjous! :-)

I may have to get more of the little ones. :-)

Chocolate fish!

Oh man. I'll have to go to the New Zealand Store now and buy some.

WOW. Awesome.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
There were only five left. And I'll probably never see another one.

And don't you have one covered in gold foil with two lollies beside it? :-D

This would definitely be my favorite kind of soccer...uh...football. Looks delicious!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure it will be! The balls on the right are.

"New Zealander celebrates World Cup by dying of chocolate overdose!"

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's hollow, so not as bad as it looks! And it might be consolation depending on which team wins--and how.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! All sporting events should be celebrated with chocolate. :^)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'd draw the line at chocolate rugby items.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
How about Olympic gold foil covered chocolate medals?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd eat those. I don't remember how many gold-covered chocolate coins I've eaten in my life. You can buy them here in net bags. :-)

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I had them once. It's not a common thing here. Pity, because chocolate is so moldable, it should be in fun shapes more often.

Those are terrific! And I like the cellophane wrapping with the little flags along the edge - that's cute.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
They're very cute! The had a price given for a full set including ref, but I don't know what that was since it was sold out.

Mmmm. Chocolate!

Go NZ!

(Not that I'm into sport in any way (I'm a terrible New Zealander that way) but I did have to laugh at all the upsets - particularly England; although I try not to laugh about it to their face)

Good point about the new ball - what will all the chocolatiers do now? Just make a smooth ball? How very unenticing.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I enjoy the World and Euro cups whether we're involved or not. It would be nice to go home after the next game knowing we did well against better teams though. I hope we hold Paraguay to a draw too.

I'm not sure if the Jabulani ball is now the official one, or just for this tournament. Each Cup had its own ball designed, but till now they were always basically pentagon-hexagon ones.

Cricket and soccer are my two sports, but we don't get much of the latter except when there's a cup tournament. Rugby? Is thugby though they've cleaned it up lately--and should do with soccer too.

I did have to laugh at all the upsets - particularly England
Yes! I laughed at the headline "hand of clod" too. And Australia going down 4-0 when they're usually so damned good at games.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
This is fabulous! Your devotion to football is big and the best - chocolate balls would promote the World Cup nicely...and bitter chocolate for me, please!!!:-):-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
This is milk chocolate, but it's all good! It's rare that I find chocolate shaped into a form that interests me. You cam keep all those Santas and bunnys and eggs.

I remember, I have a stuffed toy All-White somewhere, though Claudia bit a lot of his stuffing out. I wonder where he is.

[identity profile] emerald-happy.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
oh my god

I want chocolate now SO MUCH.

But it is night and no shops open and homg can I have that in ice cream form too.

*is going to sleep to dream of chocolate*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I always have chocolate on hand. Mainly thin dark Lindt stuff flavoured with ginger, orange, or mint, and a local one with whole almonds in it. :-D

Want. I'm officially jealous.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I was unsure whether to buy anything that big in chocolate (it's hollow though) but I knew I'd regret it if I didn't because it's a think of beauty.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2010-06-24 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yum, yum. :D Of course you couldn't resist. ::nods::

Fingers crossed for tonight...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-24 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
I shall know tomorrow morning whether it's OK to watch the recorded match. :-P

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2010-06-24 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
I've never watched a game in the middle of the night, but I'm almost tempted to tonight. :-p

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-24 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Me neither. I'm pleased that from the quarter finals onwards they're all at 6:30am.
