Moloch (311)

There will be no review of this episode as it's more offensive sexist poison from dickhead Ben Steed. Vila looks good in Federation black and learns to sing a convict song, and Avon eats an apple and meets a plucked chicken, but that is NOT ENOUGH to counteract the rape jokes and woman-hating serial killer, probably regarded by B Stard as a sympathetic character like his Jarvik was supposed to be. [stab]

mab_browne: Avon from Blake's 7 with the text - well, hooray for us (Avon hooray)

Here, here!

Y'know, that was a very succint review in itself, and no more or less than what the turd of an episode deserves. *nod* Power probably only deserves deathly silence...

The big thug (forgotten his name) does do embroidery, and I like Vila's conversation with Pella, but yes, apart from that? More crap from the shithead.

I watched Moloch myself a week or so back to see if I could spot where they had shot it at Betchworth. I couldn't and I remembered poor Deep Roy had a broken collar bone playing the Kentucky Fried Chickeno(from being thrwon by Steven Pacey during Rescue.

p.s. and I liked Brian the Spider in the Harvest of Kairos ...

I thought it was just a rubber puppet.

No, I remember somewhere Steven saying that it was Deep Roy who had to be shoved up inside the machine thing to provide the mouth and the head. As he had a broken collar bone it hurt a lot squeezing him through the small space. Steven was a bit cut up about hurting him in the first place.

Aaaargh, Ben Steed, whyyyyy.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-05 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
You'd think they'd realise after one crap episode.

Apparently they have been doing similar silly-type things to female characters in Stargate Universe (or so my contacts who watch it tell me ...)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-05 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No, or I'd stop watching straight away. There's a character who's pregnant (presumably because the actor is) after an previous affair with another one, which annoys me intensely. That universe has no place for a baby, and how easy would it have been to hide it with carefully-chosen shots on the gloomy and ill-lit sets. Now I'll have to endure a birth scene and a baby; the first is a major squick, and the second will ruin a story that needs all the help it can get right now. It lacks all the humour of the other SG series and is gloomy in both plot and lack of lighting. [uses Sam icon as she was in the last one, but with dark hair]

Didn't you get all that stuff about the disabled virgin in the lesbian body swap (and she apparently got to have sex with the layabout genius or something?).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
I heard about that, but she didn't have sex. She made advances to Rush who turned her down, I'm glad to say.

Ah, you saw the edited version they also showed in Australia. In America they did the whole hog and she even had sex with Eli.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
UGH! But that is also so very OOC for Eli, it needs to be questioned.

Firstly, we and Australia don't censor, especially not US programs. Unlike Americans, we don't mind nudity or swearwords, so a US program being censored for Australis makes as much sense as it being censored for the UK.

We download Syfy channel versions which are the originals, just after they air. Here is what the Wiki say (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabotage_(Stargate_Universe))s and what I remember. I note that they do mention the casting controversy (thin actor only) but I'm sure the even worse one of het sex in a gay character's body would be there. Perhaps they considered and rejected a sex scene?

There was a scene in an early ep where a straight male character used another's body to have sex with his wife which I found squicky on several levels, so I was bracing myself for huge fail. But it just didn't happen.

Indeed!!!

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2010-06-05 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I did like the introduction of the replication machine, for its fanfic possibilities, and Avon's OTT reaction to a tiny bit of wrist twisting is gigglesome, but the general level of offensive stupid... it burned.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-05 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
There are a few bits I'd probably watch, but they're really hard to separate from all the awful stuff. I quite like Vila and Servalan's scene in the woods. I have used more than once the fact that Servalan not only didn't kill Vila but saved his life three times.

[identity profile] shimere277.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
I just think that one of PD's best bits of acting ever is that he does not burst out laughing at the line "That is how I reasoned you would look." Huh?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently it took several takes before he and Josette could manage that.
