Power glitches and otters
There were two brief off-and-on-again power cuts last night (while we were watching Life of Brian and both times they made my PC reboot which showed me that the UPS is fried. Sigh. Greg's going to bring home a spare one from his work. His PC, much newer than my old one, was fine even without a UPD as it has a bigger power pack with a built-in surge protector.
This was in the news today, about two otters in Nelson: inseparable for 15 years. Awwwwww. [loves otters] Make the picture bigger; it's sweet. I'm glad they had such long and happy lives.

AWWWWWW. I just bawled my eyes out at the otters thing. I know it's so cute and sweet but now they're dead and I'm having a stupidly emotional day. I went home just to get out of uni-place-town and it's already driving me insane.

I didn't want to upset anyone! It's sad that they're dead, but they were old and had lived a lovely and long life together, and neither of them had to go on alone. [hugs] It's the way I hope we'll be.

I knoooow. I said I was having a stupidly emotional day. My old room reminds me too much of my cat and I miss him. And after dealing with the whole knife drama, I've lost another few hours to work on the dissertation and it's stressing me out.

The otter story is absolutely adorable, even if there's some sad involved--we should all be lucky enough to go that way after a long happy life.

Do you know the amazing story of Jin the otter who escaped here and went on a huge trek before being captured? I made three posts:
Lost otter (http://vilakins.livejournal.com/199818.html)
Jin comes back (http://vilakins.livejournal.com/204043.html)
Interview with Jin (http://vilakins.livejournal.com/208122.html) (funny article I quote)

It's really a pity the other articles I used to link to about Jin disappeared. She went an amazing distance in the sea, esp for a freshwater otter, visiting several islands, and survived a month on her own. She's now down in Christchurch, swapped with another zoo for breeding purposes, and she and her mate have a lovely (and secure) area. :-)

Am going to watch 'Life of Brian' too this weekend. :-p
How sad/bittersweet about the otters...

I can't get the song out of my head! I also watched the YouTube vid of B7 set to it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OHzKjLKKY8&feature=PlayList&p=DB7F7C6A4EC56E37&playnext_from=PL&index=0) :-D
I think it was the happiest ending their story could have had. :-) They had a lovely life together.

What a lovely picture and a touching story - even most of human couples are not so...linked to follow each other over the hills...
Like Filemon and Baucis.:-)

Animals love as deeply as we do, I'm sure. I've known some very devoted pets including a kitten who used to cuddle up to her dying human's head to keep him warm, and who went under his bed and stayed there for a week, mourning him, when he died.

Have you seen the local otters? The only place we can see them is in zoos. Are yours freshwater or sea? I love our icon.
