I have not yet got around to sorting out my holiday photos, but in the meantime, have some cats.

We've had Vic for a few years now. He first turned up as a stray of about 10 months who used to get in through the cat door and steal Tessa and Claudia's food. We put a magnetic cat door in to stop this, but one day we saw him outside on a deck railing in the rain looking so pathetic, we looked at each other and said, "All right, we'll feed him. He looked like this, though he was actually under a tree and not very wet at all. It was only later that we found it was one of his favourite poses.

Vic, nose down in seeming misery on the deck railing. Taken through a window, so there are some reflections there.

Jasmin under a pillow in the spare room. Why? It was a hot day. Silly little cat. Tessa did that too, and Jasmin looks very like Tessa here.

Bwahahahaha! Jasmin on our bed the other night, doing an Al Bundy Married with ~~Children~~ Kittens pose. It's totally her own; we had nothing to do with it. She must have gone into a dream mid-wash, and stayed there long enough for me to go downstairs and get my camera and capture her. She even has the resigned look. :-D

The sweetie was passing and her comment on that last pic of Jasmine - 'freaky cat picture'. She does look rather spaced. :-)

I have another in which her eyes were wide open and she looked quite alert but I thought this one was funnier and more in Al Bundy character.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhha. Oh god, I thought of Al Bundy immediately myself. Give Jasmin a big kiss from me.

I could not believe it. I didn't adjust her position at all, and when Greg gave her an amused scritch on the head, she fell sideways. :-D

She gets into some weird poses, but that's the funniest one yet.

Jasmin is also the one who twists her body into the most excruciating-looking poses--and goes happily to sleep.

I've never seen Al Bundy, but that photo's still very funny.

LOL. They are adorable. I've not seen Al Bundy but she still looks funny.

Jasmin sits up in the corner of the couch like that! She's the first cat since Sam, a childhood cat. We thought he was imitating us when we watched telly and named it the human pose. (Most cat poses have names to me, but that was the first.)

Jasmin is so beautiful!

She's a character! I should get some more of Ashley, but her most common poses are the Mautilus and the Parson's Kitten (named after a painting).

That and the straight-out tail were what amused me so much!

I don't know who Al Bundy is, but she made me think of a mandrill!

I love Vic's grumpy pitiful cat pose. And Jasmin who obviously knows she's gorgeous.

I think they all do. When they hear us talking about them, they go into poses they know we think are cute. :-)

There are territorial disputes going on in our garden at the moment. A new cat has moved into one of the neighbouring houses and is establishing its position.

I saw a very interesting TV program once which followed the cats of a suburban neighbourhood and found that right-of-way also depended on time of day. It was very complex, and I imagine it's hard for a new cats to change the pattern--and hard for the cats who have settled into the way things are. I see cats I don't know wander through the garden, and wonder if that's their set slot, but have never been organised enough to note times.

Awwwww, I love Vic's 'poor little me' pose. And Jasmin doing her Al Bundy impersonation is too funny! I love that middle photo of Jasmin under the pillow.

Vic does that pose when he's perfectly happy inside; it's just one of his usual ones (the Pathetic, we call it) and you could say that he conned us with it, but he really was in need of food and care at the time. Claudia and Tessa tolerated him, and he was the first stray to be halfway accepted, so we kept him (I've found homes for 7 cats to date). He gets on very well with the cubs and is usually found near them so we have a good threesome now. :-)

They are! Are you in Regina now, playing with a cute baby to make up for leaving Gremlin behind? I hope you have a wonderful time there. Someone on my flist, Liza, lives there, but of course it would be a bizarre coincidence if you ran into her. :-)

Ahahahaha...Al Bundy...hard to believe but then I know your cats enough.Jasmin is a star of a show but all the cats are adorable!

Jasmin certainly is the one who gets into strange and often twisted poses. She's a funny little thing.

I tried to take a picture of Ashley in the Sphinx pose, but she leaped at the camera and I ended up with a close-up instead. It's funny too so I may post that.

I keep thinking I should get pictures of all the cat poses we've named, but it would be so hard. Maybe I'll try to draw them--but that could be even harder!

Vic does look like the classic "I'm putting up with this but I don't like it pose" cats do in the rain.

It amazes me how a cat can be comfortable in some of the poses they sleep in. If we tried it, assuming we could even get into the pose,we'd never be able to move on waking.

It wasn't raining, and Vic does the Pathetic Pose just as much inside. :-)

I know! Jasmin can twist her body (http://pics.livejournal.com/vilakins/pic/00229cpe) so her front and back paws are pointing in opposite directions, then sleep blissfully. We wondered if she was twisted in the womb and therefore likes it, but I don't think unborn kittens are big enough to be. The other two adopt much more.

That, and the straight tail, just broke me up!

I love that last photo of Jasmin! When I was about eleven, we had a cat (imaginatively named Pusskins) who would frequently adopt that exact position. As we were living in Singapore at the time, we put it down to the heat. There's a photo around somewhere of her sprawled in my lap like that.

And poor Vic *pets* Was he napping, maybe?

She might have been hot, but she sits herself up on the couch in front of TV too.

Vic was asleep, yes, and he sleeps in that position a fair bit inside too. :-)
