vilakins: Vila asleep on duty (sleeping)

Home again

I am home again after an early-morning start to ensure that we got here in time to get the cubs from the cattery before 1pm when we'd have to pay for an extra day. They spent the afternoon running around exploring the house and garden, checking that nothing has changed, and coming up to wanting attention. They've pretty much settled down now, especially after a special treat of tuna followed by a spot (no pun intended) of laser-chasing.

Everyone else seems pleased with their "walks into a bar" ficathon assignment, but I got a character I had to google to remember. They're not even the sort of person you'd expect to find in a bar, so this will be a real challenge. [thinks about ways to turn the encounter into crack]

I'm glad they were 'talking' to you, when I got home yesterday after only one night away Quincy was ignoring me!

Welcome back! I'm glad the cats have settled in again. Mine are currently fed up because I'm chained to the desk and not spending enough time watching TV/making my lap available. But they don't know how lucky they are, because I should have been at the typesetters this week.

I find they're always a lot more demanding when I'm concentrating on something, yet when I'm peacefully reading a book and wouldn't mind a cat on my lap, they're cavorting outside.

Returns are always easier with cats waiting for us. I hope you are rested and full od optimism!I look forward to your pictures.
In the meantime, the koru you gifted me is an object of fierce envy among people in the library:-)

I'm not sure about the optimism after a depressing conversation with an Australian tourist about our economy.

I'm so glad the koru is a success!

I am sorry to hear that the situation is not good. I myself am very lucky still have my job. My neighbour lost her job three years before retirement with no chance to get any. We who live in small places are dependent on only two suitable places for getting any jobs, and both are hopeless. That´s why I was so elated to have my on-year contract renewed.
Our region here is poor in industry and what was left of it, is crumpling down too. Believe me, I really know your despair. Still, please, do not give up, one never knows. You are still young and the right chance might appear any time.*Hugs*

Welcome back. It's always nice to have our furry friends waiting for us. Gremlin hates it when the luggage comes out.

It's the best part of coming home. Well, that and my PC and LJ...

Hello again! I had to google for mine through several fandoms before I found it & remembered how much I'd liked that character. It didn't help that they'd mis-spelled the name. :^)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-26 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I noticed they spelled some names wrong. Luckily my one was correct as I really didn't remember the character's name, though I did remember the character.

Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful vacation. The cats are happy you're home. :o)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-27 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
They are! They've settled right back into their old habits and napping places, and of course Ashley has already brought me a lizard (which I captured and released back into the garden).

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2010-02-27 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't entirely pleased with mine!
It was a case of why, oh why, did they pick her!
Having said that the story is actually flowing.
Though I think I'm going to postpone it as a mark of respect.

What have I missed? I know about Walter Koenig's son, but not a tragedy related to a female actor.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2010-02-27 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
My character that walks into the bar is Bester, so somehow it doesn't seem appropriate to "borrow" him just at the moment

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-27 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
I had no idea you were into Babylon 5! But really, writing about a character he played is an acknowledgement of his skills, and not in any way referring to or detracting from what happened to his son.

Anyway, we have a month to write the fics, so you have plenty of time.

I'm not totally thrilled with mine and not feeling very inspired (I got Eric Idle/Merlin) but at least I know both and maybe inspiration will strike. I'm currently totally out of it post-Gallifrey One convention.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
At least with MP you can go totally cracked and mix up eras. I've thought up something for mine (a minor character from SGA) in which Vila will take advantage of his lack of sense of humour. :-)

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
Awwww, at least SGA and B7 are both pretty spacey, so that can work. I wanted it to be Eric and not like, Sir Robin from Holy Grail or something, but I may still be able to work. Just need to brainstorm it a bit and way too tired now. Just glad I got Merlin and not someone super obscure. XD

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm going to have to subtly remind people in my story of who this guy is, though I suppose involved SGA fans will know.

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
Is it Lorne or Zelenka? Those are the only two obscure-but-not minor characters I can think of from SGA.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
I wish it were! I'd hardly call Zelenka minor either. [loves] It's a Genii guy. I mean, I was expecting someone like Zelenka when I signed up, not someone who's been in maybe three eps. Oh well, I can play it for comedy.

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't really call Zelenka minor either, but yeah. That's about as minor as it should be, not some random Genii guy. Wow. @_@;; You're a good sport for accepting that. I might complain. You should've only gotten that if your offered fandoms were like SGA, SG1 and SGU.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe the people dealing with Dreamwidth (which I had to sign up on because of access problems) were meaner, I dunno. I had the maximum number of fandoms and they weren't connected.

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that seems really weird to me. If you're okay with it, go for it. But I don't think it'd be at all out of line to ask for a redraw from the major and largely reoccurring characters.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, and anyway I suppose he was sort of recurring. He appeared in about 6 eps, I think, and was a right bastard. Maybe SGA fans know his name better than I do, but I'll run with him.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
I see there are 13 fics with the guy on AO3 so I might read them to bone up on speech patterns. I do in fact remember him but he wasn't someone I''d choose to write about. However I rather like the silly scenario I've thought up and I can bring a couple of other B7 characters in. :-)
