Yo!

I had to bring the laptop back into town to post to b7rewatch, so here's another post from me. It's so annoying that this year we get a good strong hotspot connection where we're staying ("The Village", but in apartment number 16, not 6) but there's no route to LJ due to the problems in this country. [rolls eyes] It seems a lot of ISPs still haven't got alternate routing in place and I'm not sure when LJ/Limelight will ever bother to fix it because we're on the wrong side of the planet. :-( I shall answer comments to this or b7rewatch from email, which seems to work fine.

We just had a delicious lunch at the Cafe L'Arte which is in a garden full of amazing art including an entire outside living room made of bright mosaics. I took lots of photos. We plan to go back.

And, I forgot to post at the time, there were two Vila-related clues in the same crossword last week. I'm not sure if I remember them correctly, but:

1. Bistro goes around (6)
2. When rivers become salted (6)

:-)

The routing problem is with Optus, who are Australian, and it's purely up to them to fix it. You could try complaining to the affected ISPs, as they do (demonstrably) have the power to route around the broken bit, or you could try an alternative DNS. There's not much LimeLight or LiveJournal can do beyond filing more support tickets with Optus.

I tried Google DNS and it didn't work. Well, it's probably still because it's only us. I get really sick of insults from Aussies, having received another one today from a holiday-maker. Not funny.

I'll have to put up with it will I get back to our own ISP, with sporadic catching up when in town till then.

Is worse than that - Optus are Singaporean. I hope it doesn't have to go quite that far up the chain, not that helps LJ users in NZ if the problem can be fixed on my side of the Tasman and simply isn't being worked on for whatever reason.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-22 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Actually why do people have to wait for Optus to fix it? If Orcon rerouted past them, why can't Limelight?

I can add LJ access to seeing the cats as good reasons to go home at the end of the week.

If Orcon rerouted past them, why can't Limelight?

I don't know the answer to that, but you've piqued my curiosity - I will see if I can find out.

Well, you don“t have to be on the other side of the planet to have communication problems...it is annoying, I know...but :-) otherwise you sound happy and this is the best!
Eek the crossword - it is beyond my English...:-)
Have great time!

We are! The weather's great so far: still hot, but the air is dry! It's so refreshing.

We both got a bit burned today, probaly just walking round the gardens at lunch.

2. Delta *grins*

Glad you're having fun :P

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-20 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
:-) Not quite. It's 6 letters.

Got both the crossword clues. :)

Glad that - LJ routing issues aside - you're having a good holiday.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-20 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought you would!

Thanks. :-)

I got the first crossword clue, but not the second.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-20 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It's another anagram.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2010-02-20 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Got them. It's nice when a theme comes up like that, that the compiler didn't even know about!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-20 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it!

Just before the D-Day landings, a compiler set a lot of clues involving the code words being used causing panic in ligh places. Pure coincidence--or morphic resonance. :-)

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2010-02-20 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes, I remember reading about that. I think he got well and truly interrogated for it, too! There's probably not much MI5 interest in B7-related codewords, though.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-20 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I think they've been declassified since the 80s. ;-)

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2010-02-21 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Got the clues.
Awward no doubt they'lleventually sort it out, probably just in time for you to go back home.

Also notes that the second clue if you take the "r" from river and replace it for the "d" of salted you get Vila's surname.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-21 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
It would be a good alias for him!

I bet it will take ages. It's already been weeks. At least our usual ISP is using a different route, but tha doesn't help here.
