Haiti auction items

Good news, everybody! [/Professor Farnsworth] I seem to have formatting and icons back on LJ! At least, they've been here for a few hours, so I'm optimistic that they're staying. :-D

Since I finally finished the last of my [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti commissions, I can post about them.

I raised US$85 (thanks to some kind bidders paying more than they actually bid) with the following (click to see full-size):

This necklace and earring set (the ones on the left)

These ninja mitts, at least ones in the same yarn

This scarf, knit to order

And this pic of blind Avon and seeing-eye wolf (for [livejournal.com profile] kalinda001, since many of you will have recognised the theme). :-)

I'd have bid for some items myself if I had a job, though the custom plushies would have been way out of range.

Man, you made some AMAZING stuff. The bidders will all be thrilled, I'm sure.

I hope so! The scarf is on its way, and I sent the jewellery a while back and I haven't heard anything from the bidder in the US. The mitts went at the same time and got there about a week ago. :-P

The bidder may not realize that you'd like to know it arrived safely. Now that I FINALLY got my sewing room put in order, I can sift through the Christmas stuff & then I can try to do some sewing for helphaiti.

I emailed them and asked them. :-(

I bet you'd raise a lot for fannish bears or plushies! All of those offers got lots of bids.

It takes too long to make one of costumed & jointed bears (about a month), but I will try for scrap bears, once I get going. Mmmm... I had an idea, but I don't know if I have the energy to figure it out. I was thinking it would be cool to make little bears in the colors of the Haitian flag, but the center of the flag is quite ornate.

You could offer small fannish plushies made of socks or some stretchy material. They were much in demand and don't need joints, just fun costumes and the right hair and a standard face, I've noticed, to be recognisable. I'm going to teach myself how to do amurigumi (sp?) so I can crochet fannish dolls, or maybe I'll knit them. That won't be for a while though.

I suspect I'll make whatever is quickest & likely to appeal from amongst my ton'a stuff, just to use something up.

Amigurumi is one of the things I looked up on the net a while back & downloaded some free patterns/instructions. SO cute! I haven't tried it yet. I think for tiny toys crochet is better than knitting because of the added stiffness of the 'fabric.'
