Geographically challenged

I had a look at other LJ support requests and it seems that the problem is only happening in this country, as I have now told them. As if it wasn't already annoying enough to live at the arsehole edge of the world. It must be LJ's end because other sites are loading fine.

So it looks as if I won't be around much till whatever it is is fixed. It's just too bloody annoying to deal with raw data.

Stuff you, LJ.

Big problems, and I'm with Xtra. Apparently, according to one report, (I'm ploughing through them exceedingly slowly) the bulk of reported issues are from NZers, but I have one flister who I think is in Singapore with slow loading issues. Who knows, but I hope LJ pulls finger. Of course, it's Saturday here, and Friday night there. I think we may assume we're in for a frustrating weekend.

I've enquired of one lj friend who I know is a NZer and hasn't mentioned problems. I'll be interested to see who her ISP is.

Might be worthwhile adding that to your support request. Still doesn't fix the weekend lag issue, of course. ::growls::

I'm unaffected, and I'm with Vodafone/ihug.

I've also seen reports from Indonesia and a couple from Australia.

As I understand it, the problem involves the third-party provider that distributes LJ content around the world, so LJ's operations staff have to rely on them giving a damn to actually get it fixed. There was a similar problem in the UK a few months ago.

third-party provider

That could be interesting - in the bad sense of the word. ::sighs::

History supports you in that conclusion :/

I'm not sure. I was involved in LJ support by that time, and helped with a lot of the simple user-facing response, and my gut is saying maybe a few days, for most users, with a bit of post-crisis mopping up. I can go through the support requests from the time, but that will have to wait until I'm not grabbing a few minutes on the internet in my breaks at work :)

I also heard a rumour (one comment in a lj_releases entry) that a key bit of hardware has fallen over, and several other services in the South Pacific that this third party (Limelight Networks) are managing are also affected. Again, I don't have time to follow that up right this minute. The rumour apparently came from a Slingshot user forum, but if it's real, I suspect that there will be chatter all over local technical fora and blogs.

I just got home and saw a comment in lj_releases that it seems to be working again. Can you confirm, or is it another blip?

oh how frustrating :0(
It's a bit like the phone post issue for UK users, apparently it cuts out after 30 seconds, and has been like that for a couple of years. They are aware of it, but they've not done anything

by 'a bit like' I mean that they don't take notice of other countries, not that that little issue is anywhere as bad as yours

They did a massive bunch of basic coding changes and fouled a lot of things, I think. I'm grateful that the only problem I've noticed is an inability to delete threads with one click at the top comment.

That does not sound good. You'll remain in our thoughts if not on our screens.

Oh, no! Give us back our New Zealanders, LJ!

Bah. I hope it's fixed soon.

I just read the latest [livejournal.com profile] lj_releases post and they say this:

We have received reports that some users, mostly in New Zealand, are having difficulty loading LiveJournal properly. This may be a problem with our Content Delivery Network. If you're seeing pages displaying with no formatting, no userpics, or having trouble with 'l-stat.livejournal.com' hanging on loading, please open a Support Request or email 'support@livejournal.com' with your IP address and a traceroute to 'l-stat.livejournal.com'

So at least they are aware of the problem.

Argh, that's so annoying. I hope they fix it soon.

Damn I'm sorry that's happening. Hope it doesn't tak too long to fix.
