Well, crap

1. Due to Greg having too much work (ironic, isn't it, with me unemployed), we can only have one week's holiday. Maybe we'll take another near the end of April.

2. LiveJournal isn't working properly for me. It mostly loads unformatted / unstyled (and in some cases unreadable) and I can't see any icons. At least I can post this on Dreamwidth.

3. Ashley caught a bird as big as her head. Lucky it's rubbish bin night. She's also the Lizard Queen, bringing in several a day. I am getting really fed up with rescuing them and releasing them outside, probably only to be caught again. This isn't just a summer thing either. She catches them all year round. :-(

But, looking on the bright side, cancelling the first week of holiday means that we can go to the Kumeu wine and food festival, and somewhere different in April. Or whenever.

You are not alone in experiencing LJ's utter uselessness at the moment. But last I checked the site status, there were no issues reported. Of course not.

Holidays and work related issues do seem to be filled with irony of the unpleasant variety at the moment.

[identity profile] jacteest.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
Does Lizard Queen actually eat them?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
No. Just brings them in, proudly squeaking, and plays with them. Several a day. :-(

lj wasn't working for me yesterday but it's working for me today. *shrugs*

*hugs*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's still not working. It looks as if I'm replying to the post, not the comment. I hate this. I can't even read the home page due lack of formatting.

Sometimes the catching and bringing back thing does wear off eventually when she realises you don't want them. I'm sure female cats do more of it, presumably in their minds they are bringing them back for the kitties...

Hope you enjoy the food festival. I suppose it's just as well one of you has a lot of paid work!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's just hope it doesn't pour with rain again on the festival this year.

Mine bring in chipmunks, birds, and last summer, a baby rabbit which we managed to rescue. I've never gotten used to it :(

Mmm, wine and food festival.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Claudia and Tessa grew out of it, and they were never this bad as young cubs.

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Pity about the holiday, but as you say, a food and whine festival instead.

Just not as good.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Look, I felt like a good whinge.

Maybe some wine in the shade of a tree like last time would help.

[identity profile] luinielle.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Wine and food festival sounds like it would be great fun, but I'm sorry you had to cancel the first half of your holidays.

LJ was playing the disappearing icon game with me yesterday - I'm hoping it's all better today.

I'm afraid if we ever moved somewhere with more access to the outdoors, Kiki would bring me several catches a day, too. They're limited at the moment to finding and catching any mice that happen to wander in - and that's bad enough for me. Neither of our old cats were hunters.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not disappeared. It's just crappy and unformatted and hard or impossible to read and work with. My replies aren't even appearing as indented under yours.

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Drat about the holiday but at least you can do something else you'll enjoy.

Oh, my Ashley. She thinks she's providing for her family or is it just instinct and fun?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
If it doesn't rain like it did last year.

Instinct and fun, I think. She was a rescue from a vacant lot and had to have lived by hunting as a kitten.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Is LJ still giving you trouble? It's working fine for me, but its performance can be... idiosyncratic.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It's coming up for me, but it's bloody hard to read all raw like this, there are no icons, and all the comments on this entry are aligned instead of indented. Other sites are fine, so it's not me or the browser. Mind you. it doesn't even come up in Opera.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. Did you try putting in a support request? I don't see anything like that on the "known problems" page, so they probably ought to hear about it.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, last night. I might put in another one about it not working for other browsers (not Greg's latest IE either).

Crap, crap, crap.

[identity profile] viciousdisorder.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn about your holiday. I hope Greg's work load eases off soon enough for you guys. And that the company he works for appreciates that he is taking time out from a holiday to put this extra effort in. And I also hope that you get to go away again in April.

I hope LJ settles down soon. Is this on Greg's computer, or on your own? Sounds like your connection to LJ is too slow, so it's only loading the most basic parts (and then not the formating)... don't ask me why it's happening though.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's on mine, and we have broadband. Other sites like Dreamwidth and AO3 load fine. I see it won't load at all in Opera or IE, so maybe they're working on the server I'm on. Sigh.

[identity profile] viciousdisorder.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know how many servers that LJ has or where they are... but maybe the one your account is associated with is having troubles uploading data? Which would make sense why it's happening across various platforms, but also why other sites are loading fine for you.
Would it be worth asking LJ staffers about it?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I looked at the other bug reports for the problem. They're all from here (NZ) and other sites are just fine, so it's their end.

[is very pissed off]

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope LJ is behaving for you soon.

Oh rats to not getting time off!

If she's been used to hunting it may not be a habit she grows out of. Apart from being out with her and playing to keep her mind focussed on toys rather than prey, I can't think of anything else that might deter her.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Vic was also a stray who must have hunted or scavenged to keep alive, and he doesn't bother any more. I just hope Ashley gives it up too. She's still young.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry about the holidays, though the wine and food festival should be good - I hope you enjoy that.

Bah about the LJ problems. I know that there've been issues with some parts of the content delivery network (which is why it may be localised), but it doesn't matter whose fault it is, when you want to use the site. I hope that it gets sorted out soon.

As for Ashley, I hope maybe she'll calm down eventually. One of the nice things about Muffin being older, now, is that he doesn't catch things any more!

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and as I write, there's a new post about the LJ problem:

http://community.livejournal.com/lj_releases/54594.html

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The relevant text being:

We have received reports that some users, mostly in New Zealand, are having difficulty loading LiveJournal properly. This may be a problem with our Content Delivery Network. If you're seeing pages displaying with no formatting, no userpics, or having trouble with 'l-stat.livejournal.com' hanging on loading, please open a Support Request or email 'support@livejournal.com' with your IP address and a traceroute to 'l-stat.livejournal.com'

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I sent them the info which wasn't that easy as tracert on the URL didn't work and Greg had to log on remotely to his work, where his ISP has no problems, and find out the IP address, and use that here. I have no idea why they didn't supply that. [rolls eyes]

I suppose it will be days till it's fixed. Grrrr.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Neither does Vic, and he was a stray too.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2010-02-06 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Our lives are full of paradoxes, aren“t they? I am very glad you keep looking on the bright side of life! I hope your holiday week will be wonderful.
Ashley in her best hunting mood? What if she has made a contract with the resident lizards :-) silly, and I have to smile, she probably wants to make you happy!
Hopefully your LJ will be all right again!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I think it will be days. I'm not bothering to interact much because it's just too hard.
