Fannish memes

Your result for The Fan Fiction Personality Test...

The Mindgamer

Everything is possible, nothing is ever really over. Fanfiction is a creative outlet for you. You don't intentionally write it, it just happens. You find inspiration in several fandoms, but are not obsessed with only one.

You like to explore "what if" situations. What if this character had never made this very choice? What if this event had taken place sooner, never, elsewhere? What if these people had never met?

You are likely to write Alternative Universes, fan seasons or sequels and just follow your (sometimes pretty strange) plot bunnies.

Take The Fan Fiction Personality Test at OkCupid

This result just beat the True Fan by 85% to 84%.

And now for another fannish meme, seen in several places:

Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom-specific, general, about fic writing or art or whatever.

Hmmm, how accurate do you think that result is? I think you do dabble in other fandoms, but that you are "obsessed" (I don't like that word choice, I'd've used "primarily interested in" or something) with B7.

Which is why I thought I'd get the other result. Going by the quiz-maker's grasp of grammar however, I'm not bothered by any result.

Gosh, I got the 'Weirdo' result, and I thought my responses were fairly tame. But it's just one test, after all. :-p

And not a very well written one either. I'm not putting much credence in it.

That is a fantastic icon :-D

Question :) What sort of stories do you like writing/reading best (as in what general theme - action/adventure? kitchen sink? somehow I don't think it's romance :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
For writing, humour most of all, with lots of dialogue. Crack can also be a lot of fun.

I'll never read kitchen sink. :-P I read for escapism, whether in fan or pro fic. So for reading, I'll go for a mix: humour, action/adventure, hurt/comfort...

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
You are very, very good at dialogue :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I find it the easiest because I see and hear them as if they're in an internal film, and often the hardest part is translating the action to words.

I had the same result - for me, who rarely writes, quite accurate.

I got the "True Fan" result ... I guess I do like things to fit in with canon (which seemed to be the main criteria???).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
I do too, unless it's an AU, and then it has to fit up to the branching off point.

[identity profile] thetisonline.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, talking about your stories that fit in with canon upto the branching point ... I noticed you have some more of Lynx finished. Definitely on my New Year "to do" list!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Only one more to go, then I'll be finished with that series. :-)

I just took the test and got the same result, although I was unhappy with several of the questions for not allowing enough scope for answers. The one about shonnen-ai, slash etc, for example, two of which I don't touch with a barge-pole and the other two I quite happily engage with. Yet the only option was a love or hate for the entire list. There were a few questions like that so I question the validity of the outcome, which is a pity.

Fandom-related question (bearing in mind I haven't looked at the other comments to this post so you may have already answered): Was B7 the first fandom in which you wrote?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I found the questions poorly designed, and written too. Yeah, that question in particular annoyed a lot of people.

Yes, B7 is the first fandom I actually wrote for, though I've made up a lot of unwritten stuff in my head over the years for things as varied as children's books, Wise Guy, Gormenghast/Star Wars mashup, Arthurian legend... I doubt I'll ever go back to that juvenile stuff, though I might be able to mine some of it.
