16 questions

Survey thingy from [livejournal.com profile] bigdamnxenafan.

1. What's your dream vacation?
Three months in an Italian villa. No reference to Vila intended. It's not his fault he sounds like a style of house.

2. What did you last eat?
Some raw almonds.

3. What kinds of books do you read?
Science fiction, some fantasy if not too derivative of Tolkien, light detective novels, anything else that attracts me.

4. What are you reading right now?
Wintersmith by Terry Pratchett, a Tiffany Aching story; I like Tiffany Aching. Only one more Discworld novel to go. :-(

5. If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be?
In that Italian villa, by a lake.

6. Tell me something interesting that happened today
I don't have anything unless it's the local Post Shop being completely out of stamps. I mean, WTH?

7. Name one odd item within three feet of you.
There are so many! Pipe-cleaner B7 people, three Daleks, Buzz Lightyear, a three-eyed green alien, Captain Picard, and some Babylon 5 figures. The spaceships are all on the tree right now.

8. What's your current fandom obsession/addiction?
Blake's 7 is what I write for, but I love Discworld, and can't wait for the final season of Lost to start in February.

9. What did you really want to do today that you didn't?
Relax with an iced coffee and a book.

10. What are you most excited about?
Nothing at the moment.

11. What websites do you always visit when you go online?
LiveJournal, GMail, Google.

12. What was the last thing you bought?
Some groceries.

13.What do you want right now, off the top of your head?
A job.

14. What's your biggest procrastination method?
LiveJournal, reading books.

15. Are there any bits of childhood you miss?
The future being wide open and everything being possible.

16. Spring, summer, autumn, or winter?
Anything but winter.

Oh, shiny! They look lovely, all nestled into the branches like that. :)

Italian villa WITH Vila, I say!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yesssss! That would be brilliant! We could swim by the light of one moon, anyway. ;-)

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
Ehehehe, I approve. Would you want modern day Italy or ancient Italy for the full experience?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
Modern-day, probably. It's a bit safer, and Vila agrees.

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
True, though perhaps slightly less romantic. I'm with you though--modern day. Would it totally spoil the mood if I requested wifi too? XD

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
Not at all. I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE INTERNET ACCESS!

Good night!

I second what [livejournal.com profile] vandonovan said! Plus, Italian ice cream is so yummy.

Now I'm thinking of Vila in an old caper movie. It wasn't set in Italy, though. Have you ever seen Topkapi?

[identity profile] bigdamnxenafan.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Your dream vacation sounds wonderful! I've always wanted to visit Italy. So many places I want to see.

I second your WTH re #6. Isn't that what they're there for? Strangeness.

HA! We put our spaceships on the tree too! I have The Liberator, an X-Wing, and a ton of the Star Trek Hallmark ornaments. Seven of Nine is at the top of the tree Resistance is Futile. hehe

Thanks for doing this! I really enjoyed your answers. :)

Your dream vacation sounds wonderful! :o)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It is! There are some places that make it here. Mmmmmmm!

Years ago. I can't remember much about it, though isn't it the one where the thief lowers himself down from a skylight or dome and was copied by so many other films?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been to Italy twice, but I'd love to stay there for a while. Or even live there or in Germany, which I did for over two years once.

Many Post Shops are just a counter in a bookshop, which this one was. I'm sure the proper dedicated one in another mall will have stamps.

I have the Liberator, some B5 ships, and a Red Dwarf and a Starbug. :-D No people though. I considered Daleks, the pipe cleaner B7 people, and the little Lister and Rimmer. I might add them after the painter's been in here as I'll have to move the tree and the ships will probably all fall out.

I've been there twice, but I want to live there for a while. If I had a choice, I'd live in Germany (which I've done) or Italy.

There is a being lowered scene, yes. I haven't seen it in years myself. I remember being impressed by the fact that they start out with one plan, and have to change it when they discover one of them is being blackmailed by the cops into telling everything. And Peter Ustinov pulls everyone on a sofa and has to climb on roofs despite being terrified of heights. And there's a great scene at the end after everything's gone all wrong, and they are STILL scheming and still have the cameraderie of a team, which is really what made Ustinov overcome his fear.

I think that combination of things going wrong and them adapting to the problems and continuing anyway is what most endears it to me.

OK, I have to hire that. I'll add it to our list for the online hire place.

It was filmed on location in Paris & in Istabul, so it's got a lot of great scenery, not Hollywood fake stuff.
