vilakins: The word chocolate in many different languages (chocolate)

Better days

This weekend has been an improvement on Friday, which was a worse end to a bad week. We actually finally managed to buy camping chairs, so if the weather's good we'll be able to take them to next year's food and wine festivals. We also went to the British food importers and bought Batchelor's vegetarian Bolognese mix (good easy meal when served over pasta or spaetzle), crumble and dumpling mixes (so we had dumplings with the stew I made today; yum), potato crisps of unusual flavour (Worcestershire sauce, pickled onions), and assorted sweets. Greg got liquorice, aniseed, and strong mint, and I got a bag of Mars planets, which I've already consumed. I should have got more. They also had chocolate oranges, and I'd have bought some if I hadn't already got six from New World. At least there's a chance I can buy more there later.

Tonight we watched the latest SGU ep. Ooh, interesting developments! I can't wait to see what happens.

We also watched the animated Doctor Who. The animation was a bit clunky, and you could tell when each original short instalment ended with a cliff-hanger, but it might have made a fairly decent ep with live action.

Mmm now I really want a chocolate orange. ♥

I never managed to finish the original animated Doctor Who set, did you see that first one? With Anthony Head, as I recall. Is this one any better, comparatively? I'm not sure I care enough to try it out.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Greg found this one. It had Ten in Nevada with David Warner as the main alien (and Greg recognised his voice from Tron!) I heard there was one with Martha, so I'll have to look for more.

[identity profile] jhall1.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
rthey probably spent more money on it, as it was shown on British TV as well as being on the Web, unlike earlier ones. It had Georgia Moffet doing one of the voices. However I was a little disappointed in the quality of the story, though it did have a few witty lines.

[identity profile] emerald-happy.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
You're making me crave mars planets and chocolate orange now. Yay for a better weekend :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd never seen Mars planets before. I'm going to have to go back there and get more. YUM!

So far I've resisted started any of the chocolate oranges I have, but now I might be able to get more... :-)

[identity profile] emerald-happy.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I tend to get the bars of orange segments rather than the actual orange shaped thing because I can never break them :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
The only one I've eaten so far, I separated with a knife. Someone told me to tap them hard and they fall apart. I'll try that. I have eaten several of the bars though, also found at the British shop. :-)

[identity profile] emerald-happy.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
I tapped it hard. I broke the plate but not the orange 0;-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no! I'd use a table, but I haven't actually tried the technique yet. I assume you bash the top or bottom where the seggies meet. People say it works.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
Ahh, good food always helps...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
And this is one of the tragedies of my life. :-( It was hot mince pies with tea yesterday afternoon, but only one each.

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Mars planets mmmmmm. If I buy them it's always the small size because I would eat the big bag at one sitting. As it is they rarely make it as far as the car with me.

My favourite crisp flavour is salt and vinegar closely followed by cheese and chives

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Cheese and chives I agree with you, but I find the salt and vinegar too acid.

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah but then you don't have the vinegar addiction that runs in my family. Atleast I don't drink it neat like Great Aunt Rose.%P

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It took me two days to eat them, but I admit it's pretty hard to stop. I really need to go back and buy more.

I like sour cream and chives (we don't get cheese and chives) and salsa can be good if it's really spicy, but salt and vinegar are pretty common here. We bought the ones you can't normally find.

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Sour cream and chives too. You get that with Pringles, I think Cheese and chives are Walkers or maybe Smith's.

[identity profile] jhall1.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Salt and black pepper for me. Almost anything is improved by the addition of blacl pepper IMO.

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad you've finally found the chairs you wanted. I hope you get weather and an event to use them at.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, so do we. I spent ages looking last year, and then the events got rained out. At least we now have four chairs at home (with the two big fold-out ones that are too heavy to schlep around) so we can sit outside with visitors.

[identity profile] norda.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Your food fixings sound very yummy. I've never been good at making dumplings.

Yeh, the animated WHO really shows its faults when viewed on DVD, but I'll take as much Martha as I can get.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! It didn't have Martha! There must be more; I'll have to look. This one had Ten in Nevada with two OCs.
kerravonsen: Martha: "made of awesome" (Martha)

[personal profile] kerravonsen 2009-12-06 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The one with Martha is called "The Infinite Quest", and it had Anthony Head voicing the villain.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks; that sounds (ha ha) good; I'll have to look for that.

[identity profile] norda.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no, no, that's my bad, not yours. As [livejournal.com profile] kerravonsen said below, I thought you were talking about "The Infinite Quest".

I am pathetically behind the times, I know.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
No worries! I'm glad you told me about the other one; I'll see if I can get hold of it.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Jesus, I am reading all these comments here and I am literally drooling...however most of the things are a mystery for me:-)
I am glad that you had a good weekend, you deserve it!
Yum...yum...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. [hugs] Things will turn upside down here this week when workers come to fix the bathroom, but I'll try to enjoy the peace before that.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad the weekend has been better. That sounds like a good haul from the food importers. As for the Mars planets, I doubt that I could stop myself from just eating the entire bag, either. It's nice to have a (hopefully) reliable source of chocolate oranges. (Which reminds me: I should pick one up here for myself for Christmas!)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I forced myself to stop and managed to make the planets last two days. I'm going to have to go back there though and buy more. I had no idea they'd be that good.

Just one chocolate orange? I'm holding off starting on mine till Greg's off work which will feel like holidays.

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone is talking about that animated Doctor Who, so I'm downloading it on iPlayer at this very moment

glad things improved

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently there are more, because [livejournal.com profile] norda mentioned one with Martha. I'll have to look for that.

[Edit] Martha's in an older one, with Anthony Head, called 'The Infinite Quest'. This one was called 'Dreamland'.
