Proper TiVo!

We bought a TiVo today. OK, we've had TiVos since 2001, when I used one to make sure I didn't miss B7 when it was shown here in reruns at 6pm. This TiVo however has a bigger drive than the ones we installed in our UK TiVos--and actually has access to program guides. It's a pity Prime won't let TiVo have their programming, but we can use our Sky One box to record them. Either way, no more manually-programmed season passes that don't detect when programs are shifted. :-) Oh and wide-screen digital TV at last!

We can't order pizza yet on it, but hey!

The BoT got a TiVo recently, too! We can finally watch some of those late-night shows like Journeyman without having to make two-hour recordings of one-hour episodes, just to be sure we've caught the end. And now we can record three channels at once (two on the TiVo and one on the magic box), which is nice for those times when all the good stuff is on at 8:30pm on Tuesday, and the rest of the week is reality TV and Simpsons repeats.

Yes! And if they move the program, it will still record it!

We can't do the downloading of films since we aren't with Telecom, but we can do everything else--including watching our own downloads via TiVo. Very cool! The FF feature is excellent too; I got antsy about the 12x one on the Sky box.

Isn't it wonderful to have a recorder that follows the show, my Sky plus box does that. It does however record 4 mins fore the start and 4 mins after the finish which is sometimes a pain because the first 4 minis of a show you are recording immediately after doesn't record if you are recording two at the same time before . Does that make sense? Pizzas will come eventually. One day there will be a box that you press the purple button when a add for fast food is on and a meal of your choice will be delivered from the nearest site.

Our Sky box does that too. It has a much clunkier interface though. Ahahaha, we've got round the program overlap thing by having multiple TiVos in the past, but the Sky box will be the second one now.

As for pizzas, they can do that in the US, so it will probably come. :-)

Hooray! I love mine so much. *hugs it*

It's pretty much the same as the UK ones we already had, but much cooler looking (sleek and black with a display) yet the interface remains much the same. It's an old friend dressed up a bit. :-)

I feel a bit disployal about the old ones. Maybe we can sell them to people here who can't afford the new ones and who are willing, as we were, to set manual season passes.

One of the things I like best about the set-top box is the ability to pause live telly. So if I have to pop to the bathroom for a loo break, or have to go tend to something in the kitchen because tea wasn't quite done when the programme started, I can just pause what I'm watching and come back to it when I'm ready.

And was also delighted to discover that if I decide to record a programme that's already begun, the machine magically records the whole thing right from the beginning ! How fab is that ?

Yes! That's a feature we used a lot, and in fact we like to let live TV get ahead of us (as I used to so with the B7 reruns) so we can zap the ads. Of course you have no idea how pervasive those are here.

That works well if you haven't left it too long. But you have a different box, so maybe its buffer is longer. :-)

We have a system similar to TiVo called the DVR (I think it's the cable company's version of TiVo). I love being able to fast-forwarding through the ads - whenever we watch live tv now, I always want to hit the ff button. :o)

Our Sky One box is similar too, and enables us to record channels that aren't accessible to TiVo which, I think, just does free-to-air here.
