Day 27 - Glass Cat

Today's [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo entry is another in my cat collection. I have some more Indonesian and Rinconada cats, but I was looking for something different, and chose this glass cat.

Glass Cat

She's clear, with swirls of blue and green inside which I haven't done very accurately. The bit of colour in her tail is an internal reflection.

My NaArMaMo 2009 Gallery is here.

Oh, I am in love... I adore cats and coloured glass, and your picture shows them beautifully...

:-) I think you'll like the last picture I plan to do: two cats in a style I know you like.

I think I bought this girl up in Paihia when I was on holiday one year. I love the colours, and she's a beautiful shape with a slight suggestion of facial features. You can see on the tips of her ears (in RL, not here) little twisty bits where the glass-blower finished them off, like the tufts on Jasmin's (and Tessa's).

Glass again - a challenging subject but you capture it so well. I bet the original cat is beautiful too, especially in sunlight.

It's the highlights which make things look glassy. It didn't till I added them.

She isn't in sunlight--Greg gets worried about our strong sun being concentrated and maybe causing a fire, but she's against an off-white wall and shows up really well.

Ooo...what a beauty! The glass suits hes and shi knows she is beautiful:-)
I love the glass effect, truly fascinating art, and the swirls are perfect!

I could not resist her when I saw her in a shop. Her shape and colours are so beautiful.

It's the highlights that do it! The drawing could almost look ceramic, but the shadows are unusual in glass, e.g. the dark bit on top of her head.

I can't believe how well you capture the essence of glass and cat at the same time. This cat would look particularly wonderful on note cards.

Ah, but how could I sell them? Etsy and CafePress don't offer big sales volumes--if any--and geography is always against me. I could see if a company here is interested in any art, but I very much doubt it.

Marketing is always the bummer. :^P Quite a few of the folks on [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo have done work that *would* sell, if they could get a company to market it.

I keep thinking it'd be nice to try CafePress, but I just plain haven't got the time to sort through my photos to see what might work.

There's so much on CafePress, people would only find you if they know you and you told them.

Well, word of mouth worked for the Giraffe guy. :^)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-28 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
But what he's doing is really unusual!

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2009-08-28 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
And it's fun for people to do-- and costs them nothing. :^) Plus, he put together a very effective web-site. I might still one day set up a CafePress shop just so I can get some stuff made for me & to let friends get some if they like (and if anyone else buys, that'd be gravy)... I don't know whether that would be feasible, but it'd be fun, if it was.

This is beautiful! How large is the figurine?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-28 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! She's 16cms tall (6.5 inches).

Ooh that is beautiful. Lovely cat!

She's very pretty. I had to buy her when I saw her.
