Mixed bag

Because I feel I should post about more things than drawings of varying interest.

Good
Jasmin almost makes cleaning the house fun as she leaps onto every surface I'm dusting or wiping, and I have to laugh and cuddle her. She's so funny and eager and cute.

Bad
I have probably eaten my first and last chocolate orange. There were none left at the supermarket today. Serves me right for not feeling up to going there on Friday. This shouldn't get me down but things do when you feel a bit crap anyway. And I forgot to buy several things I'll have to go back for tomorrow. Double bum.

Good
I managed to draw the NaArMaMo thing I tried and failed to do yesterday.

Bad
But now I have to cook dinner and when I'm feeling so down, this feels like a huge and insurmountable task. I suppose I'd better get on with it since Greg has a friend coming round to watch the Grand Prix later tonight (I shall be taking refuge in here or in bed.)

Good (I suppose)
I have a new ceramic knife of scary sharpness, and at least that should make cutting up stuff more efficient. But not more fun.

*Huggles* cooking even the simplest stuff seems impossible when you're feeling down. *hugs some more* Hope you'll feel better soon, though.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
I did make dinner. It wasn't that hard to do really; I just didn't want to make the effort, but I did.

Actually you might like the recipe: chicken cut into bite-sized pieces sautéed with onions, capsicums (bell peppers), some chilli and curry powder, then for each person 1/4 cup boiling water, 2 tsp peanut butter, and 1 tsp chilli sauce. The last three things thicken up into a tasty sauce. I have some for tomorrow's lunch.

I've been feeling down for a while now about not having a proper job, but for some reason it's been really bad lately; not sure why. Maybe because spring is coming and this means that I won't be able to do the few hours work I do have when it's hotter because it's physical work and I'll just get too hot. Sigh.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, seems nummy. Even though at the moment I'm apathetic about even slapping mince and veg onto the frying pan because even that feels overwhelming. Bastarding food. And it's been so hot here during the summer that I haven't even been able to draw when the sun's been up!

But *moar hugs* I hope things will get better soon. I know that's such a bland thing to say, but I mean it. *yet more hugs*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
I know. And it always takes so much less time to eat it than to make it. At least with that fudge cake, you can eat it over several days.

Thank you. I know you do, and I wish you the same. [huggles]

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. And it's a pain to try and make a huge load at once, because whenever I try, it'll go bad before I manage to eat all of it (and I can't be arsed to freeze and thaw it all, because that'll take the same amount of time as the cooking itself)! I swear I'd live only on ready/microwave meals if they made low-carb ones...

*Squishage of epic proportions* I've actually been feeling a bit better lately, so have some spare huggles! *hughughughug*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind thawing and microwaving because it doesn't take long, but this meal doesn't freeze well, and I only had three pieces of chicken. The slow cooker's good too if I can be bothered to cut up meat which I hate doing. This new knife makes it better, but I still have to wear gloves because ewwww, meat. Anyway, then I can let it cook all day and ignore it completely till I feel like eating.

I'm glad you're feeling better. [gives you Chiana-style leaping hugs]

[identity profile] redstarrobot.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't need to cut up meat for the slow cooker. It does whole pieces quite nicely.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
True. I should try that. Then all I'd need to do id cut the fat off.

[identity profile] ultrapsychobrat.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry for the down feelings--I'm a bit that way myself today for no real reason I can find. Cuddle kitties more.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
They always make me smile. I wish I didn't have to worry and could just be with them all day without worrying about being unemployed.

[identity profile] ultrapsychobrat.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's such a bother. The only nice thing about getting older was that I was finally able to retire. Hugs for comfort and wishes for a good solution to your job needs.

Oh, I know just how you feel about something as "simple" as making dinner can feel insurmountable. I'm right there with you. *hugs* I feel like it has been long enough for both of us. Why won't it go away? Sigh.

Giving you a cute Vila icon, since at least he's cute.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
I made peanut chilli chicken stir-fry. It's pretty easy, but it's just hard making myself do things lately.

Vila is adorable in that icon. Vila is adorable anyway. I should write one of my planned stories for him once August is over; it would be fairly easy since he starts off feeling depressed and defeated and useless. :-P

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
was it a milk chocolate orange or plain?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
Milk. Maybe I'll see if the British import places stock them. They have stuff I like buying anyway.

[identity profile] kindkit.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs* Hang in there.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. You too. We're in the same boat, really. Intelligent, adaptable, well qualified, but unable to find work.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I like your report very much. It sounds like a "normal" life .I am glad none of your "bads" is disastrous - maybe the lack of chocolate...:-)
I envy you that ceramis knife. So you think it is worth the money? (here it is excessively expensive)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The really big bad (not having a job) isn't in there.

It's the smallest one and I looked online and found a better deal than in the shops. It works very well, and is wonderful for slicing soft fresh bread without squashing or even disturbing it, so it has a lot of uses. You can even cut soft things like bread really finely.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2009-08-24 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. As I cook every day, I think I will chase for a small one too:-)
Have a good day!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-24 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
It's a good knife! It will slice cleanly through meat, veges, fruit, bread, soft cake... Just nothing frozen, or hard like pumpkin. Also, you have to cut onto a wooden or plastic board, not glass; I use wood. It will be worth the price if you cook every day; it's a very good knife. I bought a 'Forever' one which is from Japan.
