Chocolate oranges and coffee and stuff

I feel really down and worthless and need distraction. We're going to a comedy show tomorrow night with cake and coffee (a nice combo) but I need more; perhaps some good escapist library books to make me forget that I'm me. :-P

What else? I really should post about stuff that isn't art. Oh yes, I bought a Terry's chocolate orange today. I've never seen them before but the supermarket has obviously got a load of them in and selling them on special. It turned out to be orangey chocolate segments--YUM--and I'm so getting more of those. Hey, are those the ones Travis likes?

The cafe with the apostrophe in "COFFEE'S" is open, and they didn't remove it. It looks quite nice, actually, more secluded then the other one in the mall. I could sit at the back and read a book without having a loud pensioners' kaffeeklatsch at the next table. I may relent and go to it, but I'll have to ask them "Coffee's what?"

I'll just post my art and be off to bed. There's a cryptic crossword to do with Greg.

I can assure you that if I could draw like you, I would not feel worthless. You've got a real talent there. :-)

Not exactly marketable though, is it?

I had a lot of chocolate and coffee today. I needed it.

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs* I know how you feel. Been down in the dumps myself lately. Hope things pick up for the both of us.

You've been doing wonderful pieces for art.

The Terry's chocolate orange sounds interesting. I've never heard of it.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
Why have you? Crap at work? Yeah, at this point I wonder if I should have stuck out my programming job with the bully manager and hope he didn't sabotage me too much. I dunno.

I can't get paid for it though.

I've heard people in the US mention chocolate oranges and wondered if they meant this kind. It was so delicious I'm going back for more. It's good they way it's all separate segments, though I ate almost half of them today.

I love chocolate oranges!

So, are those the ones you love? Terry's?

Oh yes, I bought a Terry's chocolate orange today.
Oh yes, they are yum. It's been years since I had one.

If there is anything I can do which will encourage you, just ask. {hugs}

[identity profile] wolfma.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
Chocolate oranges are indeed yom.

Hope things get better for you soon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Sooo yummy! I have to get more!

The written word "yom" BTW has for us a vowel you guys don't have (yawm?), so I spell it the way I hear it. :-)

They are the Travis variety. :) Chocolate oranges are actually a UK thing, they're very rare in the US. (Big cities will get small shipments around Christmas time, but the average American has never seen one.)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Like me! This is the first time I've seen them and I'll have to go and buy more. What is the story behind Travis and his liking of them. I'd have had him as a dark chocolate man myself. :-)

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Once upon a time they did a chocolate lemon too, which I preferred, it was less cloying then the orange. It didn't catch on though and is no more, I checked but there is some thing in the US only called the Terry's chocolate Raspberry which I would love to try.

And how many times do I have to tell you that the ABC is better than many of the books for babies I have seen over the years. You are not worthless we are in a depression and jobs are impossible to find these days. Eat more chocolate it's good for depression.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not good for other things though. :-(

Well, I might try sending samples of the ABC off. I just need a boost of confidence.

I can hear you are having a bad day...I hope it will be back to lovely sunny normal :-)
I also noticed that you have some doubts about "marketability" of your drawings - oh come on, you would please so many people, adults, children, ALL!!!!You still do here...and I cherish every item! *Hugs*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It's still very hard to get anywhere, to get a publisher to look. I might try some places in the UK.

*squish* Hope you'll feel better soon.

And argh at the apostrophe abuse cafe. I was so proud of you for going in and telling them to change the sign, but... bah. Stupidity abounds.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll still hassle the innocent staff about it. Maybe they'll pass it on. I can hope.

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmm. Terry's chocolate oranges. I haven't bought any since they closed down the original English factory where they were invented. But I have fond memories of banging them really hard against a table to get them to give up the segments, and then giving up and getting a knife :-D

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
P.S. Have you thought about taking commissions for your art and/or selling some of your crafts on Etsy? I know I would buy the Alien Alphabet for my nephew, and I'm certain a lot of others would also.

Terry's chocolate oranges are yummy! And apparently the way they're advertised over here has wormed its way into my brain, because the first thing I thought when I saw you mention them was: "It's not Terry's. It's MINE." :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, chocolate oranges. They're here all year round, though I think they get extra-heavy marketing around Christmas-time. I find it very easy to decide to have 'just one more segment'... I hope you can get some more!

Also, *hugs*. I hope that maybe some sleep has helped a little - and that the comedy show is a good one.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I've had a sample, I'm getting more because I doubt I'll see them again.

The comedy will help. I do need books though because I so need the escape. I'll have to order some today.

...to make me forget that I'm me

I'm sure that I speak for all of your flist when I say that being you is a fantastic thing to be. If only you had half as much confidence in yourself as we all have in you. You are very talented in many ways. Also you are in what sounds like a very loving relationship with Greg, which surely ought to count for a lot.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

It does count for a lot, but it also makes me feel guilty that I'm not
pulling my weight.

Coffee, cake and comedy sounds quite nice. I love chocolate oranges too, especially dark chocolate ones. Glad you got to try one! :D

Sorry you're feeling down and worthless. Must be somethin in the air. At least you've managed Naarmamo. I've not even been able to dothat.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It was milk chocolate but delish! I'm going back for more today.

Eh, it's something to do, and it gives me some good practice.

*offers chocolate* I'm sorry to hear that. I've read a couple of good books later, will get the details and get back to you. :D

I always feel better in the weekend. It's the weeks that get me down. The weather getting warmer doesn't actually help because I'll probably have to give up the few hours I do work because it's physical work and I have a dud thermostat and overheat. :-(
