Day 16 - Blue Vase

Today's [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo is a quick-and-dirty one because I didn't have much time. I spent most of the day out, then most of the rest of it dealing with photos and writing a post about the amazing evening out I had last night at Apollo 13 - Mission Control (see the previous entry). Then Greg wanted to watch some DVDs with dinner so I thought, what can I draw in 5 or 10 minutes? I know: that blue glass vase! And it really only took that long.

Blue Vase

I bought a pair of these hand-painted glass vases at a second-hand stall at the now sadly defunct Aotea Craft Market a couple of years ago and gave one to my sister. They're a gorgeous dark blue, more intense than this.

My NaArMaMo 2009 Gallery is here.

I hate you %) it would take me most of a day to get something only half as good.

Ah, but I use a graphics tablet! It makes it very fast, but I do feel like a cheat sometimes.

Graphic tablets only let you not have to pause between colour layers and make removing mistakes so much easier. That is why I would take so much longer, lack of native talent makes me a poorer artist. You do not cheat.

Awww, thanks! Sometimes I think I do.

Did you see the post in the comm givig a link to tutorials? I watched some about watercolour pencils because I have some somewhere--along with some acrylic paints I was given and have never used. I really am rather lazy though; it's so much easier with a tablet, but it would be nice to produce something I can actually hold and even hang on a wall.

Yes [livejournal.com profile] sue_chose_this posted them. at the moment I haven't got my speakers plugged in. I un-plugged every wire but the power from the computer so that I could pull it out to hoover behind it when I had my cleaning jag and found when I had plugged 'every thing' back in and pushed the 'puter back that the speakers were still resting on my chair. I'll get round to fixing them back on next week and have a look at the tutorials then.

Some of them, like how to draw faces and animals, don't need speakers; they just a series of stills with text.

You can see how beautiful the original is - and I love the colours (I know I say that a lot, but I do)

Thanks! I bought it because of the rich blue, and how it made me think of underwater plants though I know they're meant to be ordinary flowers, tulips probably.

Nice highlights and fading at the edge.

[identity profile] spacefall.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
I hope that didn't sound bad! It was meant as a compliment to the blue fading around the side of the leaf :) It gives the drawing much more depth.

I've never figured out how people draw in colour!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I hope that I didn't sound bad in that case! I really meant it; I'm nowhere near your amazing standard, and a compliment from you means a lot.

Oh, beautiful--I love blue vases, but I don't have anything as pretty as this.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
I was attracted by the rich blue and the underwater look. :-)

This is beautiful; it positively glows. :)

Thanks! I should do some more fast ones like that. :-)
