Strange sunset

I took this before we went out to Apollo 13 - Mission Control yesterday, but as it doesn't really belong with that, I'm posting it separately. It had been a wet and dark day, but just over the city the sun was shining. It looks as if it's on fire.

That's really pretty, in an apocalyptic-looking sort of way. :)

We thought it looked a bit like that too. :-P

Gorgeous photo--wow!!

I sometimes grab one of the sunset, but that was such an unusual one.

Wow, this is stunning, if I didn“t know, I would really think there was a fire! One of the rare moments and congratulations, you managed to take it!

I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't gone upstairs right then. :-)

That's fantastic! What a light show!

We usually get brightly-coloured sunsets, but this one was so unusual with all the dark clouds and that one bright rift.

Isn't it a bit like those glimpses of other worlds they get in Northern Lights?

I wondered if it was. I've never read it. It's certainly a golden light.

It is an unusual sunset, it immediately reminded me of this http://img2.allposters.com/images/PF_NEW\08_22_2005_A/PF_1178562.jpg. Another serendipidous photo from WWII.

It does have a similar look!

That's so striking! It's great to get a fresh perspective on a familiar view :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
It is! I've never seen it like that; we get lots of lovely sunsets I admire but don't photograph.

Sometimes the best way to enjoy a sunset is to just experience it. They wouldn't be so special if they were not also ephemeral :)

The Sky Tower in your photo looks like the chimney on some elaborate and demonic factory.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-19 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
It does! The top of it's in the clouds--or smoke.

[identity profile] matildabj.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That's beautiful, and yes, it does look somewhat apocalyptic!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Or blessed! I can a see faint glory to the left. We get a lot of those here, and as a kid I used to say they were God looking down. :-)

Wow, that's really striking - you did well to catch it!

We get some spectacular sunsets here, but that one was so different. I'm glad it came out; some don't look as good in the photo.
