Sodding Microsoft

Greg had a spare mouse in his car, and also swapped his one in--no luck. It has to be the Microbloodysoft update that went through last night. He's going to bring home a spare PS2 mouse from work which is sort of hopeful as they don't need drivers. If that works, I'll buy one in the weekend. In the meantime, using the graphic pen works, but painfully. Right clicking is a right pain and there's no scrolling. :-(

Can't you revert the update? (I;m a little vague on the details of how.)

Me too. Maybe they'll come up with a fix if people complain. Greg doesn't have a problem, but others must do.

If yours is a common mouse, I'm sure they'll have lots of complaints and quickly produce a fix.

Some years ago they produced am update for the driver for my sound chip, which I duly applied (it wasn't an automatically installed one) only to find myself without any sound at all! Fortunately I was able to reinstall the old driver.

I seem to be ok with the update although I did notice there was a hell of a lot of stuff going on yesterday. I just left the machine running while I was at work.

A big one, huh? Wonderful. I wonder what else they did.

Darn that Microsoft.

Here's an old Microsoft help forum where people were having mouse problems after an update last year-- if none of the advice is helpful, maybe you could ask a question there?

The mouse works. Just intermittently between random jumps.

*kicks microsoft* More times than I care to remember, a Microsoft update has frelled my computer. You have my sympathies and my righteous indignation. I'm going to ask some of my computer savvy friends if they know of anything that can help you or a way to revert the update.

I know on our office computer we have a back up drive and after a Firefox update scrambled our e-mails we simply went into the back up and restored the files to their pre-update condition. I have something similar on my laptop. May not do you much good but a back up drive might save you a bit of hassle in the future. :)

We do have daily backups. If the PS2 mouse doesn't work, we may have to use them. Greg will have more time in the weekend, but really, he needs his weekends, he's so busy at work. :-P

*Hugs* Being uneaducated in this sophisticated technology, I can only agree with your inventive but nice Microbloodysoft - and hope your husband will be able to fix it.

Me too. I hope it's as simple as using a PS2 mouse.
