Four cats and a weta

It's been a while since I posted any photos, so here are some of Claudia, Vic, Jasmin, and Ashley--and a weta one of the cubs brought in last week. The icon BTW is from a photo of Claudia, who often forgot to retract her tongue. I'm sure she doesn't mind being remembered this way. :-)

Four cats and a weta

Three girls together on the heatpad

Claudia and Ashley. Both of these were taken a few weeks before Claudia died.

Vic in a snuggler. We ended up buying three of these because the cats love them so.

Ashley and Jasmin: butter wouldn't melt

A twisted little cat: Jasmin sleeping. I have no idea how she can be comfortable like that, but she is.

Ashley doing her "come and cuddle me" pose. It works every time.

Jasmin looking very like Tessa did. She usually looks like herself but for some reason this and the next photo are very Tessa.

Jasmin in the sphinx pose

A deceased weta one of the cubs brought in. Wetas are native insects, and you may know our SFX company Weta which was did the LOTR work; named after this little guy. I've always liked wetas though my school friends of both sexes were often scared of them. I kept one as a pet for a while, but I don't think apple cores were the right diet. :-P

I appreciate wetas. They're wonderful in principle, so long as actuality isn't anywhere that I might end up accidentally touching them. *g*

Awww, pretty kitty pics! Always good for a smile! Ashley really is amazingly photogenic, and Jasmin apparently is some kind of master contortionist. :)

And yay for finally getting around to doing the icon!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
She gets into the weirdest positions, my flexible, furry friend. I must update her icon this month when she turns 1.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
KITTEHS. *snuggles them* Noki does that kind of twisting as well, which is really impressive, considering her tummy is huge. But she loves it. She's sleeping upside down with her nose somehow stuck up her bottom and her legs in the air at the moment. I should do a diagram.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
A bit like Ashley, but in a closed U with her paws up? Jasmin was in a ball with her legs in the air last night, looking rather like a chicken. What funny things they are!

Awwwwww, want to just go dive into that kitty pile, eehhehehehe.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
I always to want bury my face in their fur. :-)

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Your kittens are good hunters if the weta jumps like the grasshopper it resembles, hobs tries but cant catch them and Gwinnie , the next door cat of the previous owner, was sooo funny tryibng to catch them when she was a kit. The look of shock on her face when it jumped away just as she was close enough to pounce had us all(Mam,me and her people)laughing somewhat hyterically by the end.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
The weta may have been dead already, but it's the second one they've brought in so I suspect they're good hunters. Ashley had to live like that till she was rescued, so I think it's her. Not that she can eat a weta, but there's no meat on a lizard either and she brings those in too.

Beautiful, beautiful kitties. Lovely icon--makes me happy.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
We always smiled when Claudia did that. She looked so sweet and silly.

[identity profile] bramblyhedge.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
Cats have such weird and wonderful poses. Great photos there! =^.^= My little black-and-white Mayo used to sit on the couch with her head (upright, face-forward) pressed firmly into it. Dunno how she could sleep like that, but she did! *lol*

Yeeeeeeeeeek, a Weta!!!!!!!! I'm one of those total cowards that bursts into the living room going "THERE'S A WETA IN THE BATHROOM!!! 8O" -- and flails meaningfully until somebody else goes and removes the Weta outside. XD

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
Jasmin's slept with her head twisted round 180 degrees, or pointing upwards against a vertical surface; odd little thing. :-)

I don't mind insects except for bees and wasps because they can hurt me. [admits to frightening boys at school with wetas] My sister had a thing about moths though and would bumble about the room flailing just like they did. :-P

What lovely girls (and guy) you have. They're just cuddle-able. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
They are! I'm late to my puter today because if being "catted" by q cuddly Jasmin. :-)

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
Every time I see Ashley and Jasmine cuddling the AWWWWW factor just makes me smile all over. None of my current inside three like each other enough to cuddle. And Claudia and Vic, too, always put me in my happy place.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I've always had cuddly cats, except for Vic who tolerates the others. He's just affectionate with us.

I just love the circular Vic photo.

And I have a thing about moths as well, but I know what caused it. A large furry moth had crawled into my bed and when I lay down it crawled out across my face lust as I was falling asleep.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
I love that photo too! I've already drawn him in that pose (must iconise it) and in the one in the icon here.

Eep. I don't like the way theu turn to slimy dust when you touch them, but otherwise I don't mind them.

[identity profile] crycraven.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Kitteh love! I was home at the weekend and got plent of cat action - how I miss the sweet smell of their fur.

I love the Weta, btw. Never heard of them, never saw one when in NZ, and would definitely have had one as a pet.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I love holding my face against them. :-) They're so soft!

The pet weta didn't last long; wrong diet and the stress of being taken to school, I suspect. We buried him in a chocolate box in the garden and sang a sad song.

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Always love looking at your cats. All the shots are georgous, especially Ashley and Jasmine's twisty poses.

I had a friend whose cat used to sleep curled up upside down propped up against the wall. He'd be curled up like Vic above, but with his head on the floor and his torso up in the air.

Frankie's favourite place to be was always where anyone else was already sitting. You were supposed to shift for him :-D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
CLaudia and Tessa often took our spots as if they'd been waiting for them. :-) I find Jasmin in very odd poses including propped up with all four paws out as if she's trying to sit like a human.

[identity profile] san-valentine.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Lovely pics there. I do like the one of Vic all snuggled up. Those do look like good cat beds. And Ashley's 'come and cuddle me' pose would work on me too.

Iella seems to be a bendy cat and I have once seen her sleeping in the twisted post that Jasmin's in. The breed standard for Skogkatts is for a long tail, that should reach at least to the shoulder blades, and preferable the back of the neck. Iella certainly has a long tail, and often carries it arched over her back. When she does that and tilts her head back, the end of the tail virtually brushes her ears.

Little Vila only had a short tail, but would sleep on his back, propped against the back of the armchair, with all four white paws in the air. So sweet.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Claudia had a very long, rather rat-like tail as a kitten, but she grew into it. I should see if Ashley's will touch her neck. It's a thing of magnificence, and one of her nicknames is the flag-tailed tabby cat because of how she walks with it proudly up like a pennant.

Sorry, hit return too early. I wanted to say awwww about Vila, and is that him in the icon? :-)

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Lovely kitties. They have so much character.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
They do; each one with a unique personality and quirks.

Awwwww. Beeeeeuuuutiful puddy tats. That first one is amazing; all three of them in a circle.
Jasmin sleeping looks like she's having a stretch.

So that's a Weta. That thing is like a huge grasshopper, only more spiky. No wonder your school friends were scared.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
They are in a circle; I hadn't noticed that!

Jasmin was fast asleep like that, and she's often stretched out fully; I think she gets hot on the heatpad. Last night, she and Ashley were both squashed into one snuggler and Ashley was asleep with her head, shoulder, and front paws straight out over the side as if caught in a dive. :-)

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for sharing these - they're all lovely! (Well, apart from the weta, which I'd find a bit scary, encountering it unexpectedly! I had no idea the company was named after an actual thing.) A and J are both beautiful cats, aren't they?

I like your icon, too! Muffin often sits with his tongue out, too, though not usually as far as that!

That's a nice picture of Vic in the snuggler - I'm glad that they've been a success: it looks like the sort of thing that you sometimes buy and they won't go near it...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
But I did warn that there was a weta! :-)

Claudia did it often, and always made us smile. I only got a few photos of it though, and not very good ones.

We bought one snuggler for Greg's computer chair when he's not using it to keep all the fur off, mostly Vic's and Ashley's, and it was such a success we got two more. They're very reasonable, esp compared to the ghastly price of most pet beds, and washable. I used to have one on my lap for Claudia, who liked the extra comfort, being so bony at the end.

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2009-07-05 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
lovely, stretchy cats :0)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
They're very flexible! Well, except for Vic who's looking very 'prosperous' these days, as a friend used to say about her dog. :-)

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Amy used to do the "tongue thing" which always made us laugh.

Aww they do look so cute snuggled together.

That Weta looks like Jiminy Cricket or the cute bug that was Mulan's Cricket companion. Not scary at all.
Mind you I only find wasps and bees scary and that's only because they sting.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
They look so silly!

I am so happy the two new cats got on so well with Claudia, and with each other. That's my third pair of devoted companions; yay!

Same! I think wetas are thing of beauty and even have a carved one.

Great pictures...

*squeaks at picture of weta and runs away* :-p

Aww such cute pics of the kitties! It's amazing how boneless they look at times, especially when sleeping. Oh to be that relaxed!

I'd never even heard of a weta until I saw this post! That's cool that Weta Workshop is named for them. That Weta also did the armor and other effects on Xena: Warrior Princess if I'm not mistaken. I learned something new today, which is made of win.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
They may have started with Xena; I wouldn't be surprised. I know people who did armour work for that and LOTR. Heh, I've been called Xena twice now while dressed in my legionary gear for a re-enactment. :-) Anyway, I think they chose the name because it's a native and part of our culture.
