I watched another Pretender ep last night--oh, tragic Sydney!--but realised that I really should post about the two previous eps. Or can I make them all one post? Does anyone even care? :-P

And in fic news, I just found out via andrastewhite about cliche_bingo. This looks like fun, and could induce me to create some more crack-fic (or even crack-art). Is anyone else interested in playing too? You get a bingo card stocked with clichés and have to write a vertical, diagonal, or horizontal row of fics. There's other stuff you can do for extra points, but I think I'd just do a row. You can, if you wish, ask for a gen set of clichés, but you're free to interpret the prompts in any way you like: gen, slash, or het..

They closed it overnight. I should have signed up yesterday. This is typical of me; dithering and missing out. It happens with clothes I like in the online shop too.

Don't be hard on yourself; it was reasonable to expect the stated sign-up deadline to be the sign-up deadline, which means you should have had plenty of time - the early closure was EARLY.

Well, you know I care about The Pretender, but as far as I'm concerned, you can make them as many or as few posts as you like. Is it "Bulletproof" you just got to? I seem to recall that's about where you left off. Oh, tragic Sydney!

I suppose I really don't need another challenge hanging over my head, anyway. And, heck, there'd be nothing to keep me from generating my own random cliche prompts if I really wanted them.

Yeah, but I dunno, I'm not sure I'd want somebody else using my bingo card if I had one. :) It'd be more fun to have your own.

I did run a cliché challenge on b7friday once, but it didn't get a lot of hits. I liked the idea of being part of a ficathon and going for the crack.

Maybe we could run a crackathon like the one

blakefancier ran years ago which spawned my genie Blake and PI Jenna stories. She asked for ideas and people picked prompts they liked. This just seemed more of a challenge.

I don't know why they closed it; numbers wouldn't make much difference without recipients; many would default anyway. Maybe it was too hard to generate the cards.

Yeah, this one did seem like a particularly fun challenge. A very creative format, if nothing else. A crackathon or something might be nice, but I don't think it'd quite scratch the same itch, alas. Me, I was thinking I could use it to get some cool prompts for those Pretender stories I keep saying I'm going to write, and I really liked the idea of using that format to do it.

Based on what they said on one of the posts in the comm, this does seem to have been the problem. IIRC, they said they were figuring it would take them a week or so just to generate cards for the requests they had already. I guess it got kind of overwhelming. Which is totally understandable when something like that turns out to be way the hell more popular than you expected, even if it is disappointing.

I know someone who said she waited a couple of weeks for a kink bingo card. I wouldn't have minded waiting. :-(

I'm not keen on starting a crackathon anyway; I've had a poor record there. I think one needs to be fairly well-known to get something off the ground. Maybe we can write from Andraste's card; I don't know. It's not really the same as participating though. Sigh.

I wouldn't have minded waiting, either, but maybe they didn't want to spend a couple of weeks doing them. Which I really don't think I could blame them for. I mean, they might have lives. :)

I've occasionally toyed with the idea of starting another ficathon -- it really doesn't bother me how many people do or don't show up to mine -- so if you really wanted it to happen, maybe I'd be willing to do it, but... I dunno, if you're interested, ask me again in a few weeks when I've gotten over the "But, no, I wanted to do that!" reaction and am capable of thinking about it objectively. :)

Yeah, I didn't really want to use her card either.

I dunno, I'm not sure how to generate prompts from that list, and it would have been more fun being part of the ficathon. Oh, well. I should have joined when I thought of it. But as Kathryn said, how were we to know they'd close it before the date they gave?

Actually, I just went and looked again, and apparently what they actually did was to cap the number at 400. So anybody who signed up after #400 wouldn't get one, anyway. Which may well mean you wouldn't have gotten one if you'd signed up last night, regardless, as I think they already had a bunch of outstanding requests.

And of course you weren't to know. I mean, it said the 26th. There's certainly no reason why you should feel bad, just as there's no reason to resent the mods for deciding they were at their limits and just couldn't do any more. Crap happens, y'know? And, hey, on the scale of crap that happens, missing out on a fic challenge is pretty darned minor, even if it is a bit annoying. :)

I know it's minor, and I'm pretty much over it now. I'm just one of those people who needs a deadline, at least these days. Back when I started in fandom, I had loads of ideas, and this looked like a fun way of acquiring some. :-)

Oh, I'm right there with you on the deadline thing. Although I honestly don't think I would have made it in with enough stories for the cliche thing in time to win any "points," anyway. Not when I've got this remix story still to write, and a vacation coming up in August.

That's OK! I did the same with Astro's, and now I have to go back and see what she said about the eps I just commented on...

I will have to think of a good short story idea.
