Gen ficathon
I was just saying to
astrogirl2 that when I've finished my
multiverse5000 story (which is due this weekend; eep) I'll be free till August and
naarmamo.
I forgot about the
gen_ficathon. Official fandoms include Doctor Who, Lost, Star Trek, SG1, and SGA among others; you can request other fandoms too.
The timeline is:
June 4-25: Sign-UpsAnyone else want to play?
June 28: Assignments Sent Out
July 28: Default Deadline
August 11: Final Deadline for Initial Participants
August 18: Final Deadline for Pinch-Hitters
(projected) August 20: Posting Begins!
[Edit:] B7 isn't one of the official fandoms after all, so I won't be doing it as I doubt my ability to write in most of the fandoms. I'm sure I saw it there when they put it up, but I must have been seeing things, or I was thinking of the voting post.

If you don't *want* to write anything other than B7, that's one thing. But if it's lack of confidence that's stopping you, then perhaps the challenge is just what you need to help you see your own potential. Just sayin'.
Edited to fix the bad HTML.

THen again I'm not even sure why there is a limit on what fandoms you can write, since I don't think it's an exchange. Ah well.

Could always try running a B7 gen ficathon yourself. Though I don't know how much participation you'd actually get. :/

And anyway, who'd take part in a B7 one? Hardly anyone writes for it now.

Not that a small (say six person) ficathon would be pointless, as presumably that'd be six more fics that otherwise wouldn't exist, but yeah. There's also the fact that In an exchange I wouldn't want to write the sort of stuff the rest of the fandom would want.
I guess something like people submitting a bunch of prompts and then other people claiming them could work, though again that still means you have to hope people both submit prompts and later claim them. Sigh.

I suppose we could gauge interest on the B7 comms and run a small one on
I'm glad you feel like writing more B7 though! We've lost a few writers to other fandoms in the last couple of years, and some of those that stayed rarely write anyway.
Maybe first I should get interest up by running a rewatch. I just haven't had the energy to arrange that and pimp it about though. I've been feeling pretty crap lately which saps my will to do anything much. I'm just glad I enjoyed writing "Hot Stuff"; comedy at least cheers me up.

But we watched "The Way Back" the other day and it was a lot of fun and I hope to rewatch the rest of the series sometime this summer. I also discovered
I'm glad about "Hot Stuff" too. I guess that you're waiting for a deadline to post that?
I've had a few bad experiences with exchanges, though some great experiences too. I find that it's best when the scope is narrow. So a B7 general exchange is almost impossible (let alone a multifandom like that comm) and that pairing centric or theme-centric tend to do the best. So I'm sure a Blake/Avon ficathon would probably go well here (for um, those fans who like B/A, of course) since they'd automatically get something they liked. Me or you having to write B/A would probably be difficult though, as would one of them having to write A/V for me or something. Anyway.
The nice thing about a prompts claiming sort of ficathon is that yes, you can claim your own but also if you default you're not letting someone else down. They can also be open ended. I'm running one in another fandom right now and while it has a July 11th deadline for when fics are due, I intend to keep the prompts available to be written after that, and allow people to request more to replentish the ones that were written. I just wanted the deadline for motivational purposes.

I saw your discussion with her! I had no idea she was RPing before that. I also don't know who she's playing with, but no one I know AFAIK. Hardly any B7 people RP these days.
I posted it already (http://vilakins.livejournal.com/466358.html)! You missed it! :-P
That sounds like a good idea. I find deadlines useful to make me write, because I tend not to otherwise, esp if I have a good book. I suppose the depression's getting me down.
Off to bed now, sorry. I want to get up fairly early tomorrow (Saturday) to go to a book sale.

And yeah, apparently the girl who plays Dayna commented and said her roommate is Vila, so they don't appear to be people we know at all. (I went to the Vila's LJ and she doesn't even have B7 listed as an interest and isn't a member of any of the comms or anything.) Really surprising. I wonder how many other B7 fans are out there like that! Especially shocking since I tried so long to get some interest in joining the Avon and Vila
I agree about deadlines; it's just extra motivation. Another nice thing about prompts claiming sort of ficathon is that there are likely to be pairing prompts and gen prompts, which can be a lot harder to find in a more traditional ficathon exchange. (At least one that isn't exclusively a gen ficathon.) It's silly, really. I keep forcing myself to try to write in the new fandom
Book sale sounds fun! Have a good time. I going to shower and sleep myself, being it's 4:10am here. :)

There was a B7 fan posting a vid on
I'd rather like to get into an RP again, but it's hard in my timezone, and also hard to find someone to take part. Sometimes characters talk to Vila on his LJ though. BTW who runs
I noticed that
I've just had my Saturday morning cappuccino, and it's time to hit the book fair, just down the road. I've often found some gems amid the dross at those things.

I think I "saw" the poster and didn't really see the poster and just thought it was a meme banner thing or something. I did see the vidder who posted. Sharing the links isn't a bad idea, though with any amount of prodding about s/he could find them fairly easily.
I think Thetis runs that one. I just have
I wouldn't say it's entirely my fault she's into the Beatles now. It's an old fandom for me. I am always keen to talk about them and share pictures of them with her, etc. but she really went the fannish route herself. I'm trying to play along, but a lot of my fannish glee over them has waned. I'm just not excited about them anymore like she is. I love them, of course, but I'm not fannishly active, I guess. Anyway, I run, and have run,

Yeah, I did wonder about that. Who are you playing; Tarrant?
I know you used to be into the Beatles, so I assumed it was your influence that got her interested. :-) Yeah, I know how it is to love characters or series but not be actually fannish about them.

I never understood how people could do that, but I recently found out a lot of Americans pronounce those words the same. To me "their" and "there" sound the same, but "they're" is said "they-er". Same thing with "your" and "you're" the latter has almost two syllables as "you-er" and "you" has a whole other vowel sound.
