Big Stan

I watched that Minder episode last night. David Jackson played Big Stan, a character who made Gan look like a graduate of Belhangria University. Stan got more lines than poor Gan though, plus a mouthful of hand. He was, like Gan (or the way I see him anyway) a rather sweet character, very loyal and staunch. I think he's in the next two episodes.

I'm enjoying watching old British programs on this new UKTV channel - Porridge in which Coser popped up as the prison doctor, Morse, and Dalziel and Pascoe. I hope they get round to showing two series I really loved years ago - A Most Peculiar Practice and The Beiderbecke Affair.

just for the record

It was called A Very Peculiar Practice, rather than most. Loved that programme, but don't think it was ever repeated over here. Must have been on in about 1986 or 1987? Always had a soft spot for Peter Davidson. Loved Beiderbecke also, very funny and quirky

I always got the name wrong, even at the time. Duh!

I think they were on here in the 90s; it used to take a while to get overseas programmes here. There were two series of Practice I think, and three of Beiderbecke, the most recent shown not that long ago--the couple had a kid they called First-born. I must check to see if they're on DVD at all...

I watch UK Gold and Granada Plus all the time. Roy Hattersley once described them as TV for those who prefer secondhand quality goods to brand new rubbish. My faves are Open All Hours, The Man from UNCLE and Hamish Macbeth, though they haven't given us that one in aaaages....

Lucky you! We don't get UK Gold, though this new channel is pretty good. It only has British shows though, no The Man from Uncle which I hear is worth a watch along with It takes a Thief and Starsky and Hutch--all shows I'd like to see.

P.S. What's Hamish MacBeth?
