Increasingly enfuriated rant

If it's not bad enough I feel crap about myself and my life anyway, RL is out to get me.

  • Our water main is leaking again. The plumber is coming this afternoon and maybe we'll need a whole new one since this is the second time.
  • I have to get someone in to replace all the window rubbers. Yeah, that's what they call them.
  • I also need to get someone to replace the handful of rotting planks in our deck
  • Oh and someone to fix the leak in the guttering and the roof
  • And then there's the courier:
    • I ordered something to be delivered last week, forced to use a courier with signature required because that's the only option the company provides. Even though I order clothing from Ezibuy all the time and they just leave it in the letterbox or at the front door and I've never had any trouble.
    • The courier came during the 45 minutes or so I was out taking Jasmin to the eye specialist last Monday.
    • I rang them and asked them to send it to our local post shop (Meadowbank) for collection, an option they offer. They couldn't find it on their system, so I said, "Fine, send it to Eastridge then."
    • It wasn't sent to Eastridge.
    • Furious, I rang up and asked what had happened. They had taken it there, then brought it back. They didn't know why. Is it all right if it's redelivered to my place on Monday morning? Yes.
    • It's Monday morning and I'm sitting here unshowered and trapped in the house waiting for it. I suspected it wasn't coming, so I rang them up. What a surprise. It's at the bloody depot. I lost it and swore at them, pointing out that I'd been forced to pay for a signed delivery, and something taking more than a week to get to me is a total waste of my money and time. Ordinary mail would have got it there by last Tuesday. "I see here," she said, "that you want it to go to Meadowbank post shop." WTF? They couldn't even find that in their system last week. I slowly told them the process I've been through and they said they'd ring back. The new person (the third I've spoken to today) offered to get it to me by an urgent courier. I accepted.
    • I bloody hope they actually do because I'm still unshowered and contact lens-less, and the water guy's coming early this afternoon.

I bloody hate NZ Couriers. This is not the first time they've stuffed me around.

I'm not ringing the other people till I feel better. Now I'm both depressed and angry and that's not a good combination.

[Edit] The delivery came, brought by a very nice guy who agreed that they're "hopeless".

The plumber came (early, just after I got out of the shower) and it looks like we need a new main. Al least he doesn't have to dig up the driveway like I had to pay heaps for in a previous place; he uses a "mole" to dig a tunnel for the new pipe. But still, it's all volcanic here with big rocks, not to mention our trees' roots. :-P

Yes, I hate courier delivery. They stuff up, and then I have to catch a taxi to ruddy Ringwood to pick up the parcel from the depot. Ordinary post is much more reliable!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Their depot used to be not far, but now it's way out in East Tamaki. Besides, I object to have to collect something I was forced to pay a premium to have delivered. I was prepared to go to a post shop, but they couldn't even get that right.

They've delivered it now anyway, only a week late.

Those are very irritating. *big hugs*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. At least the courier finally came a week late.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2009-04-26 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
*Hugs* I'm sorry. I hate it when the bastards jerk you around like that. I've had it happen way too many times too and it's ridiculous. Having to wait around and not being able to do anything and not knowing when the fuck you can relax again is just infuriating. *hugs*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I know! Then the plumber came just after my shower. At least I was dressed; I was just drying my hair. I suppose I can go out now but I don't feel like it. That means of course that I should do some cleaning. Sigh.

The last I saw of Ashley, she was checking out the leak herself. :-)

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2009-04-26 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, man. Well, I hope the plumbing problems get dealt with OK, at least. *crosses fingers for you*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
It looks like we need a new main, and that's going to be a major operation with all the rocks and trees. :-(

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
YIkes! Well, um... good luck!

[identity profile] toft-froggy.livejournal.com 2009-04-26 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh dear, that sucks a lot. I hope it all gets sorted out soon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
The courier has been now--a week late--but the main's going to have to be replaced since there are at least two leaks and we already fixed one. I haven't the heart to tackle the other stuff yet.

Good luck with the things that need to be fixed, including the window thingies - wonderful piece of terminology, that one. I take that they *are* made out of rubber?

I have a sore knee and a funeral to attend on Wednesday. The former is rather like your delivery problems - highly irritating. The latter is just one of those things...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, they're the sealy bits round aluminium windows. Ours have perished with age; in fact the whole house is a bit that way.

Chronic pain really gets you down; I know. Sorry about the funeral. I haven't been to very many, but for some reason there've been about three in as many years.

[identity profile] jomacmouse.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure the ones around our windows are rubber, but ours certainly aren't old enough to have perished yet. I hope.

My mother has chronic pain problems, unsurprisingly after the problems she had last year, so I know those in a vicarious fashion and can sympathise with the real thing. This isn't. My knee is essentially self-inflicted - some shoes do not play nicely with certain ground conditions, alas - but the blow to the pride *does* have an effect on equanimity.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, I remember now. I fell over on concrete and hurt my knee a few years ago, and it took a while to come right. It's only recently stopped hurting when I kneel on it, but it was fine apart from that. I haven't really had pain that lasts longer than a few days though. A sore foot last week what lasted several days was annoying enough.

Oh dear, what an odyssey...damn, and I thought this mess is only a domain of the Czech Post! Your delivery staff must be a clone of out "dearly beloved" Post Office. Living in a small village, I ALWAYS have to chase EVERYTHING - they do not deliver packets, they only leave a messsage, but the post office is closed at the time I return from work - and the just can´t give a plain parcel to my husband, then they mistake my address for another - there are four families with the same name "Ježek" in the village and I either recieve things that belong to other Ježeks or they receive mine.Or my things get lost. Or they are returned to a sender because I have no chance to collect them...
See? I am warming up...*Hugs*

I don't know how I'd handle it if ordinary mail was that bad. We do seem to get a lot of mail addressed here that just isn't ours. It's not even that common a street name either, but all these strangers seem to live here. Normal packages are fine; if they fit on our box by the street, they're left there, or else in our porch. It's just when one needs to sign for something, and even though I say I'm happy to take the risk as owner of the goods, they refuse to accept that.

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Delivers here are just as bad :/
I'm glad it arrived eventually

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
I know someone over there who often posts about things not being delivered. Bloody hell, it's a service for us, the customers; we're the ones who pay the freight for stuff we buy.

[identity profile] jacteest.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
You must have had a premonition when you posted the topic for [livejournal.com profile] b7friday !
Good luck with all the repairs.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
I've basically had a crappy week, so any of the days could have qualified, esp last Friday when I found I still didn't have the package, and that our rubbish hadn't been collected due to the gales blowing the bin away from the roadside. It just all built up today and got me though.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
Good luck with the mains...

I've dealt with obnoxious couriers in the past, so I can relate to your pain. :(

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
I don't get how that can be regarded as a service! I don't mind if they just leave it in my box or at my door (which has always been fine) but they won't let you waive the signature, even though you're paying for it. I e-mailed the company and suggested they offer freight by post or courier without any sigs.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
I remember one time at work I was trying to deal with a beeping alarm panel by the main door, and a courier was there demanding a signature. I guess he couldn't see I was busy... [insert sarcasm here]

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't had much trouble with them when I actually encounter them. It's when I'm not there to sign that the trouble starts. :-P

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs* Sometimes things just avalanche on you, until even the least little thing that you could normally take in your stride makes you NUTS. Hang in there! The tide will turn, the scales will balance, the wheel of fortune will land on your lucky number some day.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[hugs back] I did think of you and the entropy house. :-) Entropy seems to be getting at ours, all at once.
