Young Vila lies about margarine
Look what
thetisonline found for me: a young and cute Michael Keating! Just watch the first ad (or more if you're British and nostalgic). Awww, he's adorable! He looks as if he's just come in from a game. Which team does her support? Not Aston Villa anyway; wrong colours.
The ad was shown in 1977 on LWT, pre Blake's 7. I remember Michael saying he'd got his hair cut very short just before filming on B7 started and being worried they'd fire him. I suppose they cast him looking like this--and Goudy in The Sunmakers. I wish he'd kept it longer for the role of Vila. More, I dunno, roguish. :-)

Perhaps they chose colours that don't match any team. That would make sense.

The colours match Scottish footie team Celtic (pronounced for some reason cell-tic).

I used to live in Celtic Crescent, and it was said that way, perhaps because of them.

Celtic are the obvious side, but that would have been a quick way to ensure no Scottish Protestant ever ate Stork again. Actually, looking at the list of teams does suggest that the advertisers were targetting the Catholic market!

When I was a teaching in Handsworth in the early 70s (only 2 terms supply) so many of the other teachers were Welsh that descriptions always included if they were north or south Walian. :~)
So it's obviously a tradition to come out of Wales and try to civilise the Brummies.

As already suggested, I think it's just supposed to be 'generic football colours', not a particular team. As Celtic is a Glasgow team, seems unlikely to be representing them. :)

(Then again, he still managed it right up to S4 when he wanted to...)

Are you going to be trying to find a pattern for his scarf and hat now? ;)

It's strange how green is not used as a football colour except for the Catholic teams. (And then Everton don't use it.)

Watched to the end and was amused at spotting a much younger Alun Armstrong in police uniformin the "Vicks" advert!

Brian as a young copper! There was a young Alun Armstrong in "Enemy At the Door" which was made about that time, guest starring in one ep as a barber dealing in the black market. And instantly recognisable!
