I'd forgotten it was St. Patricks' Day until I saw someone walking down the street in a silly green hat. It's funny how traditions develop and mutate.

We do have the saint, who has been also a patron of the Czech Lands - St.Václav - Wenceslas, and yes, he is that one from the carol! :-)
Snakes - well, vipers, nothing extremely dangerous.Poor things are frightened only seeing people.

There's a mosque around the corner from me (...used to be a synagogue...) that was draped in green banners on Sunday, and I thought, blimey, that's ecumenical, but I think that's the official color for the Prophet's birthday celebration.

I like snakes--Beautiful creatures--but we're not allowed to have them here, even in zoos, I think. I have had pythons draped over me in Malaysia though. :-)

Václav was actually a prince in the 10th century Czech state and he was a supporter of Christianity from the West against original pagan society. Thus he was also spreading a new feudal system. He was a great diplomat and he wasalso educated - both quite unheard in this time of fights and strong warlords. His opposition (his own brother) had him killed and he became a martyr and lately a patron of the Czech lands.
There is St.Václav´s cult in our history and culture, and there is a legend that Václav and his knights are sleeping inside Blaník mountain and in the worst time for our nation they will wake up and ride to help...

Poor little thing!

We found a bald baby hedgehog a while back, but it was just mange; he did really well on treatment and cat food. I used to get e-mails from the vet saying it was time for Edgy's worming pill! Greg is sure he saw him since with a female (a smaller one anyway).

Ah, we had real kings of this name, Václav I,II, III and IV.
The first three were of the Czech Přemyslid family, the last was of Lucemburg family. But they are not saints - hahaha, definitely not.
There are old Latin legends about St.Václav, and chorals.There is definitely more about him, the history of the beginning of Czech State is very exciting!
