Here we go again

Yesterday I took Claudia to the vet for her regular injection for kidney disease (laurabollin which stimulates her appetite, I think). The accent is on the second syllable, but all the same I'm tempted to name a character Laura Bollin. :-P

Today I was back there again--with Jasmin. I noticed last night that she had a lump on her lower eyelid, near her tear duct, so I took her in. They had a look, drained it, gave her an injection for pain and inflammation--though in fact I don't think it was bothering her because she was her happy, playful self, she had a slight temperature--and some ointment. And an appointment to see the eye specialist since it's so near her tear duct which may have been damaged. :-(

He's the guy who performed two major eye operations on Tessa, and luckily only a couple of suburbs away. I bet he remembers me. He must wonder why my cats get eye problems; I'll have to tell him that I have three others he's never seen (and hope he won't).

I'd been planning to insure the kittens while they were young and healthy so we wouldn't get the huge bills Tessa ran up for her eyes, and I must do that. I just didn't think it would start this early--and that they might be as trouble-free as Vic and Claudia. I hope this doesn't affect her premium since it's an accident.

Poor little girl. She gets so frightened when I take her in the SleepyPod, she burrows right under the blanket I put in it for that purpose.

Poor little things. *cuddles them and you hard*

And Noki just walked up and seems to want to say hello.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks and hugs to you and Noki.

Cats know. Whenever I post about them, the one concerned usually comes in here. Also when I'm reading about cats. :-)

Hugs and prayers--I always hated taking Bancoran to the vet: he howled the entire time...very loudly.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
Jasmin hides, and Ashley looks calm, sitting there in the pod, but she's trembling. Even Vic trembles, the big sook, but Claudia just squawks with indignation.

Jasmin was pressing right up against me at the vet's. [sniff] Luckily she's a forgiving little thing and was happy and purry (and hungry) when I got her home.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, poor kitty. I hope the vet gets it cleared up.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
And without an expensive and scary op! If I have to leave her there though, she might be there for the weekend since tomorrow's Friday. :-( I just hope he only has to do a small procedure and then suture so I can take her home in the afternoon.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry to hear about the problems! It is fortunate that you have evidently a good vet there. Well, our poor kittens but you do your best for their wellbeing and they know they are loved.
BTW - Tygr only sees the vet and evaporates. It is because I am the only one in SpolĂ who has the cat vaccinated ( and my daughter her cat) and the vet comes here once a year to vaccinate dogs. Tygr smells the dogs and always disappears. So the vet gives me a syringe with serum and my daughter does the vaccination for both cats because she deals with animals (cattle) and all is all right.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
I do think they know they are loved. :-) It's good that Tygr is vaccinated; well done, your daughter!

[identity profile] thetisonline.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh noes! Hope everything goes alright.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
I just want her better and home again tomorrow. She seems fine tonight though; she climbed into the top shelf and knocked all my Russian dolls down, so she can't be in pain. :-)

[identity profile] miss-next.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
Poor poppet. I hope she'll be all right soon and they won't have to do anything scary.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
Tessa had two major ops on her eye. Luckily this isn't her eye as such, so that has to be better.

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
poor kitties :0(

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
I know. I was so upset at the vet. I thought it would be something simple, and I felt horrible for bringing a trusting little thing to a place that scares her. I'll feel better when the specialist has seen her.

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
Poor baby, fingers crossed and prayers being said for her well being and hugs and sympathies for you. Kittens, like todlers have so many injuries from playing if vets didn't know better you'd be reported for cat abuse.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. [hugs] She does get into scrapes, falling off things, but I'm pretty sure this was a play fight, like Tessa's injuries were. You can't blame them; it's in their natures.

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, do you have a pic of that SleepyPod? It sounds good. My 14-year-old is to and fro to the vet for steroid injections (she has an inoperable tumour but they keep it in check and she isn't suffering).

Hope the kitty recovers well.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Here's their home page (http://sleepypod.com/sleepypod). I was so impressed, I googled to see if I could buy one here, and I could! Whenever I take a cat to the vet, people ask me about the pod. It's comfy for the cat, easy to carry, can be belted into the car seat, and if you zip the top off, you have a round bed. The furry inside zips out for washing too. I'm really glad I have it because Claudia has to go in regularly, and it's so much nicer than the hard plastic and metal cage I had. Even with a blanket in that, she slid around inside it. The top zips in two; I find it easiest to put the cat in through the top, and just zip the top right off when I let them out again at home.

I hope Jasmin feels better soon...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. Actually she's been her normal playful, hungry, naughty, cute self, so I think I feel a lot worse than she does. :-P

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, poor Jasmin! I'm glad that you spotted it and got her seen to, and let's hope that that will clear it up. Do you have to keep putting the ointment on for long? I hope it's not too difficult!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
It says to do it for 7 days, 3 times a day, but the specialist might change that. I'm very used to putting ointment and drops in eyes after Tessa's eye problems. :-P She probably made me super-sensitive to anything being wrong with eyes too. Claudia had a sore eye a while back, but I put Brolene in it (human stuff is what they use for animal eyes anyway) and it was fine the next day, but I still had her checked.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it struck me after I'd commented that you're at least more used to doing eye things than I would be! I had to give Muffin a tablet the other day, and I thought then how it was almost easy, after getting all that experience with Thomas last summer!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 10:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm still hopeless at giving pills after years of having cats. I now just hold them while Greg does it with a pill-popper thingy. OTOH it's me who trims their claws, which I really should do again.

Poor wee Jasmin. I hope she gets through this OK.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. She's been fine apart from when she was at the vet. She's taking it better than I am! I just hope it's not serious. At least it's not her eye, just her tear duct. :-P

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
*pets Jasmine and tells her it'll be all right*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
She's back with lots of meds. I hope it is; she's young and healthy.

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw poor kitties. I hope they'll be alright.

Pet care can be very expensive, esp. when they need vet services.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Jasmin will be fine.

I've been wanting to get insurance, but Greg wasn't keen. This has convinced him; so far the costs' over twice what an annual premium is.

I sympathize for poor Jasmin. Most of my cats don't like to be in a pet carrier, either. I'm glad Claudia is doing well with her treatments.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The Sleepypod is a nice carrier, soft and comfy. Jasmin only gets scared when she arrives at the vet. This time I gave her a drop of Rescue Remedy.

[identity profile] merrymaia.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, poor Jasmin! I hope everything goes well with the eye specialist.

*pets Jasmin*

*hugs you*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
She's back, and I hope she does well so she doesn't need sutures next week when he checks her progress.

Thanks. [hugs]

[identity profile] pet-lunatic.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor kitty :( *hugs*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. [hugs back]

[identity profile] jthijsen.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you have Feliway spray over there? Apply to the inside of the sleepypod half an hour before the cat has to go in there and odds are she'll feel a lot less scared.

Of course the vet will always be scary, and the worst of it is that you can't explain it to them :-(.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I gave her a drop of Rescue Remedy. I learned that trick from the woman who runs the boarding cattery I use. She seemed better in the car, but she was scared at the specialist. But then, she was away from home, and hasn't met many strangers. She scoffed her food when I got her home though, so she bounced back.
