The Pretender 210: Indy

A good episode, despite the petrolhead stuff. ;-)

Awww, see how Sydney's face lights up when he steps out of the lift and see dream Jarod. And I have a tweed cap just like that which shall henceforth be known as my Sydney cap. :-D

It seems that there is indeed a bond between twins as Sydney gets the message from Jacob first. I couldn't catch what Jacob was saying in French at the hospital; something about the children. I assume he meant the other twins Krieg was experimenting on.

I'm really surprised though that the Centre doesn't know where Sydney's fishing cabin is? And anyway, I thought he only ever went away over Christmas to see Jacob. Or hasn't he been there since the accident? If it's Sydney's place, it didn't exactly look abandoned.

All I have to say about the A story is that it was also about brothers and had an extra set (the Andrettis), and that Jarod discovered RC cars after the model ones last week--but this time he went for a scale of 1:1. :-)

I KNEW IT! It was indeed Sydney who shot Raines' oxygen tank (possibly aiming for his head). I guessed that at the time, and Sydney's denied familiarity with weapons supported it.

I'm wondering if "Gene" is a name, or the reason Jarod was kidnapped.

And I note that Sydney (and Jacob) seem never to have given up their Christian belief with the cross Sydney drew on Jacob's forehead and the hymn "Amazing Grace" (took me a while to place the tune) that he played for Jacob. But why bagpipes? And awww, Parker was lovely with Sydney, holding him when he cried, and playing Fish with him when Raines turned up. Pity she virtually told him it was Sydney who shot his tank. Keep your gun with you, Syd.

I liked that the ep finished with Jarod really there. Hey, maybe they went fishing later!

This was a good Sydney episode, yes indeed. *sniff* I loved that Jarod was there for him at the end, that Parker was there with him after realizing what was happening.

[nods] Sydney's lost what really was almost another half, but there are three people who care about him.

Man, everybody's watching The Pretender but me right now!

And I have a tweed cap just like that which shall henceforth be known as my Sydney cap. :-D

I really, really like that cap on him. :)

It seems that there is indeed a bond between twins as Sydney gets the message from Jacob first.

It's a little bit ambiguous, maybe, but that does seem to be the case. And the show's hinted at that before, with that experiment Sydney was doing where he'd shock one twin and the other one would flinch. Which he seemed utterly delighted by. Oh, Sydney.

I couldn't catch what Jacob was saying in French at the hospital; something about the children. I assume he meant the other twins Krieg was experimenting on.

I caught "the children are in the," which pretty much exhausted my French. I thought it might have been something about the kids at the Centre, actually. But I poked RSR to translate it for me, and IIRC it was "the children are in the meadow" and maybe something about sheep. So he was probably remembering something from further in the past than either of our assumptions.

If it's Sydney's place, it didn't exactly look abandoned.

He might go up on weekends occasionally or something. It doesn't seem to be that far away. Actually, I can think of a line from a later episode that indicates that, yes, he has been up there since, but I'm not gonna talk about that. :)

I guessed that at the time, and Sydney's denied familiarity with weapons supported it.

It took me a while to come to that conclusion, myself, although by the time he admitted it, I wasn't surprised, either.

I'm wondering if "Gene" is a name, or the reason Jarod was kidnapped.

And it was ages before I suddenly found myself exclaiming, "Oh, wait! 'Gene' isn't necessarily a name!" Sometimes I'm a little slow at picking up on possibilities. :)

And I note that Sydney (and Jacob) seem never to have given up their Christian belief

I don't know about Jacob, but Syd's Catholicism seems pretty lapsed. Actually, I don't remember precisely, but does he say he hasn't been to confession in 30 years? If that's true, it seems he stopped going about the time of the accident. He really doesn't seem to have let go of it completely, though.

But why bagpipes?

Some people actually like bagpipes! :) But "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes will never, ever not make me think of The Wrath of Khan.

Pity she virtually told him it was Sydney who shot his tank.

It was a great line, but more than a little ill-advised, yes. :) Then again, it's amazing what people can get away with practically admitting to at the Centre...

I liked that the ep finished with Jarod really there. Hey, maybe they went fishing later!

That ending, as you can imagine, did fuzzy things to my heart. :) I like to think he stayed to go fishing too, although somehow I do kind of doubt it. Awww.

I really, really like that cap on him. :)

Sydney looks good in everything he wears, but that cap even suits me! I've had compliments wearing it. It's a great cap.

"the children are in the meadow" and maybe something about sheep

Ahh. That would explain my lack of vocabulary there; my French was somewhat urban, and I'm better at understanding it written. :-)

He might go up on weekends occasionally or something.

That makes sense, Even if he only ever took two weeks off a year, he does still have weekends. I'm just surprised the Centre didn't trace him there; esp if they're tapping his home phone. They like to keep tabs.

Syd's Catholicism seems pretty lapsed.

I can imagine--he wouldn't want to go to confession and keep on saying "Forgive me, father, for I have sinned. I do experiments on captives" when he intends to keep on doing so. But he's kept his belief. Perhaps Jacob did too if he liked a hymn. Heh, a friend once said that Grace was a pretty amazing woman do all those things and shlep that guy home, and now I can't hear it without thinking of that this powerful Amazon.

Some people actually like bagpipes!

I do, for Scottish music. And, KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

I like to think he stayed to go fishing too, although somehow I do kind of doubt it.

They could have sat there with rods, like Jack O'Neill, and talked about Jacob. :-)

Yeah, it seems to me that they'd have to know about it. In which case, it would be a little foolish of Sydney to go there. But maybe he didn't really feel he had anywhere else to go, and/or figured that, since Jacob clearly didn't have much time, it would probably all be over by the time anybody got there, anyway. (Which, of course, turned out to be true.) Or did they explicitly say that Raines didn't know about the cabin? I actually re-watched this one a while back, but I still don't remember all the details.

Yeah, and I'd kind of feel sorry for any priest taking Syd's confession. ;)

Heh, a friend once said that Grace was a pretty amazing woman do all those things and shlep that guy home

Ha! :)

They could have sat there with rods, like Jack O'Neill, and talked about Jacob. :-)

Again, I somehow doubt it, but, man, I would like to think so. I say somebody should write that as a missing scene. :)

I wrote a missing scene! It's your turn. :-)
