Market fun and puns
I had to go into town to pick up our film festival tickets, so I took the opportunity of going round the craft market, the only shopping I enjoy. I got four very cool rings for $5 each (parking alone cost $9)--two paua and silver ones, a maltese cross, and a dark glittery panther. I also had a massage, then samosas and pakoras for lunch followed by organic coffee with an equally organic ginger biscuit. Yum.
When I got home I had to bring our wheelie-bin back down the driveway. I don't know if other people have those, or if they do, whether they call them that. They're rubbish bins on wheels which a truck with robot arms picks up and empties. On the way down the drive (which is a long one) I thought up a very silly Vila ficlet.
Wheelie Bin
The first week after Vila got back from CF1, he put all his rubbish in a plastic bag and put it outside his apartment building for pickup. It was the only bag in a neat line of green plastic bins on wheels.
"Where's your bin?" It was his neighbour, Jimbo, a large slow man who worked in construction. He had never really grasped the grammar of Terran.
"I've been away," Vila said.
"No, where's your bin?"
What business was it of his? "I was on holiday."
"No, mate, where's your wheelie bin?"
"Oh, all right. I've really been to prison."

Sounds like you had a great time at the market, sometimes it is just so nice to potter around looking at great things

I miss those markets. Have you ever been to the one in the Christchurch Arts centre? Lots of good stuff there, it's where I used to get all my art from. Also miss the film festivals, the Wtgn one in particular (never got to the Akld one). Haven't found anything similar here yet, although I'm sure there must be one.

I believe all the film festivals now have the same films in turn now. The Auckland one is huge; so many films it's hard to choose, but I picked out 10, hoping other less unusual ones will come back. Many more do these days, so it's no longer one's only chance for many of them.
