Other journals
Oh, wonderful, as Vila would say. I suppose LJ will be all right, but if it isn't, I'm only on Vox and GreatestJournal which seems to be closed anyway. Oh and Facebook which I don't really see the point of except for playing games like Lexulus (mutant Scrabble).
I've tried to get onto InsaneJournal, but its capcha isn't working (on repeated tries, for me, anyway), and Journalfen's bots are down. Oy.
So tell me, people, where are you?
[Poll #1326566]
I'd also like to know whether you can copy LJ entries to the other journal, or mirror.
Sorry; reposted because I had to fix the poll to have check boxed, not radio buttons. [headdesk]
[Edit] I managed to get onto InsaneJournal. If we all do end up there though, I'll be sorry to lose my heavily customised layout.
[Edit] And you can indeed copy your journal to another clone, but so far without meta data. I am still investigating.

Still, I'm glad to have it in case of emergency. And I hear you can copy your entire LJ onto IJ but I've never actually tried it myself.

I'm not sure why I can't get on. I hope it's just a bug and not them keeping some countries out.
[Edit] I just tried again and got in! :-)

Mind you, being a Luddite, I've been downloading and saving my LJ page-by-page on my harddrive (HTML only except where there's lotsa pictures)

I have also found a cool tool called LJ-Sec (http://www.mp3vcr.com/ljsec/) which will copy one's LJ (all of it or selected entries) to other journal sites. I've installed it but have yet to test it. The instructions are here (http://brown-betty.livejournal.com/284083.html).
I really, really hope it won't be necessary to move though as I have so much history on LJ. I already have my LJ archived, but copying the fiction etc to another journal will at least mean that it's still on-line.

I have used LJ-Export to back everything up to my harddrive. Tedious.

I just found LJ-Sec today and am going to try to copy my LJ to IJ too. I've had a look at your IJ (and friended you) and it looks great. I'll start working through mine. Did you do yours all at once, or month by month?

And I have no idea about LJ entries (see my backup hassles)

It looks as if IJ is the place to go. I will do a post on backing up and copying journals from here to there tomorrow.

Currently refusing to run around and panic over LJ. I've been told there is a piece of software around that turns it into a book, so I may just do that, but I am not carting the whole kit and caboodle over to another journal site unless I know it's going down. I've got the best part of four years' entries on here!

I'm Nicola Mody by the way. :-)

There's plenty I don't like about FB *doesn't mention the crappy new layout. Doesn't mention the crappy new layout. Doesn't...* but for casual keeping in contact its pretty good.
Rubbish for blogging. As in, complete & utter rubbish.
I guess the main reason I use FB though, is 'cos all my RL friends are on it and since most of them live 3hr drive from me, its handy to chat/share photos/make plans. Mostly I use FB for RL friends & LJ for 'net friends.

At the moment, InsaneJournal looks to be the favourite. I suppose there's a danger of their being overwhelmed by the number of ex-LJ users turning to them, and stopping the creation of new accounts.

Journalfen looks like another clone, but its bots were down last time I looked.
