Three Christmas stories

Since it's Christmas Day here, I thought I'd post links to three of my stories that people might enjoy.

Let There be Light manages to cover Hanukkah, Christmas, pagan solstice festivals, and scepticism, so there's something for everyone!

Seven Gifts, set not long after Gauda Prime Day, and also seasonal.

The Star is a ficlet I wrote for a Christmas prompt one year: three of the crew are interested in the light from a certain nova.

I hope that the last time I read "Let There Be Light" I commented to say how much I love it. If not, well . . . I really love it. Such wonderful detail, especially in the very believable syncretistic traditions of the Deltas. And Vila remembering the thief who was saved is so wonderful--I'm not a Christian anymore, but I still find the story of Jesus immensely powerful and moving.

Thank you so much! I always feel that Vila will be forgiven much because he loved much in his own way. I wrote that one for a Christmas challenge on a yahoo group which is long dead.

It is indeed powerful and moving. Did you read my afterlife story which has the Carpenter in it? That one just flowed out of me one day when one of [livejournal.com profile] entropy_house's cats died and someone was talking about whether animals go to heaven and whether heaven would be a good place if they didn't. I got this idea and ran with it: Through the Gate (http://www.farsight.net.nz/fiction/gate.htm).

*sniffles* I'm all teary-eyed now after "Through the Gate."

Sorry.

Then I shouldn't tell you about Seven Gifts (http://www.farsight.net.nz/fiction/gifts.htm), made up one Christmas holiday, but not written down for months because of soppiness fears? I suppose I should add that one to the post since I think it mentioned the Delta festival of light. Yep; I will, and it features gifts.

Oh, not bad tears. Although I'll probably have to wait a while to read "Seven Gifts" lest I melt into a sniffling puddle of holiday-ness. :-)

I'd say this one needs a hanky. I told it to Greg when I thought it up and he said I should write and post it, but I really did think it was a bit much and had to steel myself to. However I've had good feedback from it. :-P

And good tears, really. It has happy endings (yes, plural).

Vila as a Maccabee makes so much sense, though he'd be surprised to be described as a rebel, even if he did follow Blake. Wonderful stories very allegorical but beautiful too.

Thank you!

Oh I don't know. I think he'd rather like to imagine how the public might see him as a romantic and dashing Che Guevara type. :-)

I do so love these Vila stories. :)

Thank you! :-)

Those are all mighty enjoyable at any time of year!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! They're my only really seasonable ones though, so I thought I'd plug them. :-)

Ah, the mice have their hats on!

They're lovely :)

Christmas seems to suit B7 - I've written at least three for it, along with 2 for The Sentinel and now one M7 one...

And I love your two long Christmas ones! They all seem very Dickensian, come to think of it.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he seemed to have the same glee and celebration of the festive trappings as I do :)

I'm going to borrow your idea and post a link to my Christmas stories too...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
An excellent idea! I read those both before I "met" you properly, and I was rather in awe of you. :-)

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2008-12-26 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
{snicker} and then you 'met' me, and awe went out the window...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-26 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
We became friends! That's much better. :-)

[identity profile] spacefall.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, still lovely, and thank you for my card. :D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, you got it! :-D My timing was much better this year.

Many thanks for your lovely, lovely stories - read many times and again today, with a relish!

I'm so glad you enjoyed them!
