A B7 Christmas, and seasonal dinners

For the Blake's 7 fans on my flist who aren't on the mailing lists: do have a look at the best SF Christmas tree decoration ever, created digitally by my friend [livejournal.com profile] minnie13's partner [livejournal.com profile] spacebovine (check out his LJ for the models he's made). This is the model Liberator he made for [livejournal.com profile] minnie13. :-)

And it really feels like the end of the year is approaching; Greg's annual office dinner is tonight. It's at Cin Cin (which I didn't know was still going; I used to eat there years ago) and I was a bit uncertain about whether to go. Last time the people I sat with were so very boring and mainly asked me what I did for a job and I hate that. If they do that tonight, I shall say I'm between contracts and how about talking about something that's actually interesting?

But hey, free food. Though they'd better have vegetarian options on the set menu this time. The last two times they haven't, and that's just rude; the orthodox couple had to order food that wasn't on the set menu, and I wasn't at all happy about the amount of bacon, ham, and shellfish in most of the options which gave me only one choice for the first two courses. Will they have learned? Probably not.

There will however be good wine. They know how to choose wine.

Cool!

Though they'd better have vegetarian options this time. The last two times they haven't, and that's just rude; the orthodox couple had to order food that wasn't on the set menu, and I wasn't at all happy about the amount of bacon, ham, and shellfish in most of the options which gave me only one choice for the first two courses.
Yeah, they have no excuse if they know beforehand that there would be a problem. We've been going to the same restaurant for our Christmas Do for a number of years now, and we have someone who's gluten intolerant, and the restaurant is very good at being accommodating, making special versions of dishes for her if need be.

So do you do vegetarian when you eat out because it's "safer"? I know you're not Orthodox (heh, you have only one kitchen!) but I hadn't really thought about whether you kept Kosher or not.

It wasn't the restaurant's fault, but that of the person at Greg's work who chose that particular set of menu options.

No, but I prefer to keep largely to the basic kashrut rules. I don't eat shellfish and pork and prefer not to have dairy and meat together. I do often choose vegetarian though because I'm very fussy with meat and too often they mix types of meats, which I find gross. Bacon seems to get into everything here.

I never heard of people having two kitchens though; just two sinks (or a Fisher & Paykel dish drawer which is basically two dishwashers), two sets of crockery, and two ovens. Me, I don't worry; the dishwasher gets things clean. :-)

And I'd better go and get ready!

I got curious and googled- they're PDF files and I wasn't THAT curious, but you could get an advance look at the menu.

It won't help; these work dos always have set ones with about three options per course.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2008-12-18 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, that makes sense. Good luck!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-18 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
It's just that the person who chooses the set menu each time was really thoughtless last year. I hope they did better this time, but Greg doesn't know. The restaurant will probably be as helpful as they were last time to the couple who couldn't eat anything.

I am ready (in very smart black and white and orange) for Greg to pick me up; go me.

I frelling hate company Christmas parties. I haven't been to one in years. Some years they don't even have a party, and I'm glad of it.

OTOH that Liberator Christmas ornament rocks!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-18 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not fond of them either, but here they're usually just a lunch or dinner out. I do like going out, but the person at Greg's work who chooses the set menu is plain thoughtless.

The ornament rocks!

I hope it goes well. I'm sure you know how to make a bad party better. :-)

Just got back, and it was fun! I snagged a seat opposite a guy I used to work with and his wife I've known for years, and one of Greg's colleagues I know, so the company was very good, and so was the food. I went for both the vegetarian options and they were yummy.

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2008-12-18 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, wonderful! I'm glad. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-18 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It was such a relief after last year, when everyone agreed the food was substandard, and I ended up on a table with people who were really hard to talk to.

[identity profile] crycraven.livejournal.com 2008-12-18 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I hope you had fun! That the wine and conversation flowed and the food was yummy. I always find that the evenings I approach with trepidation turn out to be the best - lowered expectations and all that jazz xxx

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-18 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
All three happened! I think they learned from last year, which all of them thought was substandard, and I managed to sit opposite people I knew. It was a very good evening out!

[identity profile] crycraven.livejournal.com 2008-12-18 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really pleased for you - YAY! Free food sounds good to me - I've run out of money now, cry - I'll be sponging off siblings over the holiday hahahahahahaa xx

I don't be;lieve I was so obtuse! I saw that on FC and thought very pretty, but what has it to do with B7? Only now you mention "SF" can I see what it is....

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-18 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It's very clever and quite subtle with its colouring. :-)

The Liberator! I love it.

Isn't it clever!
