Jasmin--and introducing Ashley!

Jasmin came through her operation with no problems at all, and they said she was very definitely on heat. So early! They recover quickly from the new anaesthetics, and she promptly began playing with the three new toy mice I bought her at the vet's as soon as she got out of the carry-bed. I can hear her thundering around in the bedroom over my head as I type--and she's supposed to be taking it easy.

Because I was worried about what she'll do when Claudia (who has kidney disease and has lost weight lately) dies, because Jasmin loves snuggling up to her, and Vic has never to my knowledge done so with another cat, I decided to do what several people said was a good idea: get another young cat for Jasmin. So I went to one of the Lonely Miaow foster homes last night and adopted a little silver tabby who is about 7-8 months old. She was rescued along with her mother and siblings from a property out west. She's really friendly, smoochy, purry, playful, and very laid-back, considering. She sat quietly in the carry-bed all the way home, and wanted to explore the house straight away. She's met Vic (who looked at her for a while, then jumped on the couch and went to sleep) and Claudia (who growled, as she did with Jasmin at first, but then sat on my lap while I knitted).

OK! Greg just came home, and chose the name Ashley from my short list! She is no longer The Cat With No Name.

I didn't want to introduce her to Jasmin yet, but I will tomorrow. She's desperate to meet her, but Jasmin, who got an accidental look last night, fluffed up, and ran away, knows there's another cat here. Because Ashley is playful and cuddly, I'm hoping they'll bond and be companions for life, like Claudia and Tessa were. They can compare operation scars; Ashley was done on the 2nd. ;-)

As for the house she was in, wow. It was run by a lovely and sensible cat-lover and her friendly husband, and they had about 30 cats and kittens there. Some were rescues they have decided to keep, but most were tiny fluff-balls of kittens, only weeks old. AWWWW! SO CUTE! There were only about three teenagers, and Ashley was the friendliest and cuddliest.

I do hope it works out with Jasmin. And here's a picture!

Ashley with a knitting needle.

She has a really pretty face and green eyes, but her mackerel tabby markings don't really show here. You can see her stripy legs though. The backs of them are black from the soles to the knees, like boots. :-)

Awwww, she's precious and sounds so sweet! I hope she and Jasmin get along splendidly. :) Glad her surgery went well and that you don't have to go through the same thing for Ashley!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
I hope so too!

I must go to bed now and cuddle Jasmin; Greg's taken his cod and cough to the other room so Ashley can sleep with him: first time for her in a bed, I think. :-)

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, she's really pretty! She and Jasmine will look gorgeous together once they make friends. She makes my boys look really porky, though - I don't know how they manage to put on so much weight, because we don't feed them all that much (well, I don't know how they manage it now that I've put a stop to them scoffing the dog biscuits, which they did behind my back for a couple of weeks...)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
Ashley is a little scrawny and her fur lacks gloss, like Vic was when we found him. She'll fill out and go glossy too like he did. :-) Though I hope she won't fill out as much.

Because Vic is huge! He's oval-shaped from above! I don't know why; he doesn't eat much here. I suspect him of eating out, though he's got a collar and tag so it's obvious he has a home. Perhaps he nicks stuff.

All the cats eat each other's food. Claudia eats the kitten dry food (so not good for her, being so rich) and Jasmin eats hers. Not much one can do about it.

Aren't they pretty! I must get a close-up. I tried, but she kept rushing the camera. :-)

And now it's time for bed and cuddles with Jasmin, who especially needs them tonight.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
So do I. I even prayed they would.

Awww, a sweet tabby cat icon for her! I must make one; lucky I have the space now. :-)

Oh, she's precious! I have to get a kitten...soon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
She's so sweet! And she has that tabby M and the eyeliner my sweet departed Sigi had. :-D

How many cats have you got? I think four makes me a mad cat lady.

Off to bed now. :-)

Awwww she is so cute, she has similar markings on her fore head to Jasmin, they give her the same serious look. Hopefully the two of them will get on together, young ones usually do.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, all Burmese seem to have a bit of tabby in them. Claudia's tail has stripes in some lights.

I hope they get on! So far there's been a few hisses, and Jasmin's gone off to sleep in the bedroom.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
Adorable! How I wish we didn't get allergies :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not allergic to them, but sometimes they make me sneeze because they've been in a plant outside.

[identity profile] san-valentine.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
Another one already ! A kitten and a teenagers now, you lucky thing. Your house is going to feel like there's at least six cats in it once they get going :)

I do hope poor Claudia isn't going to feel too left out, with the newbies taking time and attention. I know you'll still show her lots of love, but young cats do demand time. And I'm sure Jasmin and pretty little Ashley will end up having lots of fun together.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't at first want two kittens because I didn't want Claudia to be left out, but I think she'd be very happy if she's not longer pounced on, but still cuddled when they're tired. She hasn't been lonely since Jasmin came, but she gets very annoyed at her wanting to play.

I do hope the two kittens get on well. They're both affectionate and playful little things.

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
She's clearly going to be a beauty. The worst thing about cats is that you want them all, isn't it.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
And this is why I avoid the SPCA, though I support them with donations. I'd want to take all the kittens and cats who liked me. Luckily I only had one choice at Raewyn's; Ashley snuggled into me from the start, and the other older ones weren't interested.

Welcome, Ashley! I'm glad you managed to find a cat with the right personality and a silver tabby coat! And I'm sure she'll settle into the family soon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
She was suggested when I rang up because she's a friendly little girl who was the right age, and she liked me straight away. She smooches right up to my neck and face, and follows me around. She has yet to bond with Greg, but I saw her at his feet before. That's she's a silver tabby is a bonus! I think the only cat I'd turn down is a white one because they're in such danger of skin cancer here; Vic already is with his pink nose and partially white ears.

I must make Ashley an icon.

[identity profile] thetisonline.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
I've always loved silver tabbies. She's lovely. My daughter said immediately as she saw the picture: "She has lovely eyes." She takes a great interest in your cats!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
She has beautiful eyes! I didn't even realise how lovely till I got her home, as she was snuggled in my arms with them closed at her foster home. :-) I love the markings on her face and around her eyes. They're very like my dear Sigi's, but she was a brown tabby with golden eyes.

[identity profile] wolfma.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, she looks like one of the kitties who lived with us when I was a child!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
She reminds me a little of my Sigi, who was a brown tabby with golden eyes; their face markings are very similar.

(The cat in the icon isn't one of mine, but is just like Sam, a cat my parents had.)

she's so pretty :0)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:31 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
She has a lovely face and from your description, a lovely nature.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
She has, both!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
She's settled in really well, too. She's well trained, except for scratching everything in sight, even though I have a scratching post and mat.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
And she's a darling; so affectionate and sweet.

[identity profile] miss-next.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, what a pretty kitty! I just want to pick her up and cuddle her. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
And she'd be delighted! She's a very cuddly little smoocher.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
OOh, who could resist that face! I love her ear furnishings, so luxuriant! I'm so glad you didn't wait to get her. I'm betting that she and Jasmin will be best of friends right from the start.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
She has the furriest ear insides I've seen on a cat of mine!

Hmm, not exactly. Jasmin wasn't impressed when she saw her this morning, but Ashley wants to be friends with everyone. Jasmin's been sleeping upstairs; I'll bring her down later and cuddle her while Ashley plays so she can see she's a little playmate. I hope.

Any tips?

Oh she's beautiful! Glad you got your silver tabby - can see she's got playful eyes :-) Think she and Jasmin are going to have a great time once Jasmin accepts her. And am so please that Jasmin's recovering so fast.

And yay for choosing human names - I hate it when people get all uppity and insist it's an animal and therefore has to have an 'animal' name. *goes off on a quick side rant* Okay, back from rant!

*hugs to Ashley, Jasmin, Claudia & Vic*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't have got her regardless of her coat if she hadn't liked me, but she's a friendly, cuddly, sweet little thing!

I've always used human names, right from when I was five and allowed to name our new puppy; I chose Peter. Since then I've had Sigi, Petra, Claudia, Tessa, Vic, Jasmin, and Ashley. :-) My sister tends to recycle my names; she's had a Sigi (short for the German Sieglinde) and now has a Petra. I've also found homes for strays Luke, Larry, and Cammie.

[purrs from all four]

[identity profile] crycraven.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
What a doll, she is so bright and beautiful. I hope all the others are ok and they are getting along by now.

You make me want to sneak a kitten into my room. *sigh*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Vic and Claudia are fine now after some growling from Claudia. Jasmin was very upset this morning after having her bottom sniffed as an opening gambit, but has been upstairs sleeping to aid her recovery. I will try again today, holding Jasmin so she knows she's safe. Funny little thing; Ashley is the friendliest new cat I've had.

It would be hard to conceal, and it would go stir-crazy!

Vic and Claudia don't mind her, but Jasmin, little scaredy-cat that she is, is nervous. [rolls eyes] And Ashley's the sweetest, must unaggressive and inoffensive kitten ever. Yet Jasmin loved Claudia from the start, despite her growls and smacks. Ashley just sits there and looks hopeful, just wanting to make friends. Ah well, Jasmin's getting better all the time. It's odd though; she was terrified when she came here, but she's a fearless explorer of the big outside.
