Various Doctor Who stuff

My second (in more canon colours) Doctor Who scarf is about a fifth done, Jasmin notwithstanding.

I do intend to go back to the garishly bright one when I've finished this one, but I wanted to complete the more DW looking one by the end of the year for the [livejournal.com profile] who_knits knitalong. I also want to find some suitably metallic silver and gold yarn for a B7 teleport bracelet, though I'm not holding my breath; the huge selection of funky yarns that were around a couple of years ago seem to have disappeared.

In more Doctor Who news, it's TARDIS Day tomorrow (45 years since the first episode, An Unearthly Child, was screened) and there's even a comm for it: [livejournal.com profile] tardis_day.

And for the wealthier DW fan, how about a beautiful limited-edition fob watch? They also have plush adiposes if you think they're cute. Many seem to; I think they're creepy.

Have you been playing in a Tardis? I watched An Unearthly Child 45 years ago. :~)

That's kind of what I was thinking, since I know Dr Who is older than I am. Is it 25 years since the first screening in NZ perhaps ?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
No, just a typo. I meant 45.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Typo! I shall fix it.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I have ordered the fob watch for hubby for Christmas.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yay! It really is a beautiful thing. If I were more of a fan (and had a job), I'd certainly order it.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Well I have a job and he hasn't and he sooo wants it for Christmas!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
How cool knowing you're giving him such a wonderful gift!

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure Jasmine sees the scarf as a personal toy. ;)

The fob watch looks nice, pity about that exchange rate. They can keep the adiposes though. :(

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
The fob watch is a thing of beauty, and it works! (Well, as a timepiece rather than a timelord repository).

Yeah, I don't get the adipose love. I thought I'd include the link for those who fancy one. Give me a plush DRD instead. :-)

[identity profile] jthijsen.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
The adipose babies weren't really the bad guys, it was that creepy nanny that took things too far. In fact, if they'd just quietly taken only the excess fat and left, everyone would have been exceedingly happy. I know I certainly wouldn't have minded...

As for the fob watch, I much prefer the pattern on the Doctor's version, but they only sell a cheap plastic version of that, without even mentioning if it can actually be used to tell time. If they ever produce the doctor's watch in that quality, I'll snap it up in a second.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't mind several adiposes leaving residence in my body either! :-) I still think don't think they're cute though.

Maybe they'll bring one out yet.

It would seem that someone has: http://celestialtoystore.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=4&zenid=76de139e33831633bbc54c8c3f241fa0

Not nearly good enough, though, the cover isn't engraved, it's etched and the color is all wrong. Not a good enough effort at that price.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
There's this one (http://shop.scificollectorshop.co.uk/epages/es105345.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es105345_shop/Products/doctor-dr-who-fob-pocket-watch) on the same site as the Master's one, and it's engraved. At that price it probably doesn't go though. I wonder what the difference is.

[identity profile] jthijsen.livejournal.com 2008-11-23 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
It's plastic and according to a review at Amazon it's made so badly that the reviewer was afraid the hinge would break every time he opened it. With the exception of the one on celestialtoystore.com, every single doctor who fob watch I found googling for it seems to be the same. :-(

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-23 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh damn, is it? I knew there had to be something wrong with it.

I wonder why they made a decent metal Master's watch first. I'd have thought they'd do a really nice Doctor's one. Perhaps they still will.

[identity profile] thetisonline.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
This is so inspirational! I definitely need to get knitting! You have made heaps of progress, considering it is your second start. Can't wait to see the completed product!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
I just had to frog 4 rows, helped by Jasmin. :-P However I'm about a third through now, helped by knitting in front of cricket this arvo.

[identity profile] jhall1.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
Is TARDIS Day longer on the inside than on the outside? If we're stuck with biannual clock changes, then the clocks should go back on TARDIS Day, which would make it 25 hours long.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
But that wouldn't work here.

[identity profile] jhall1.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
No, it wouldn't. You would have to find another significant Who date to use for TARDIS Day, sometime in your autumn.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
MMM, well done! Mňau for Jasmine!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I've done more now, despite having to undo several rows after she (probably) made me split a stitch by whacking the needles with her paw while I knitted. :-)
