Catch-up

I haven't posted for a few days, so I thought I'd better.

I'm still working on the post-election official count, now special votes, and tomorrow is the last day. Then I'll have to ring the agencies again to try to get a contract. Now we have the Rich Bastard's Party National back in power, perhaps business confidence will go up and they'll start employing again. It would be nice to have a silver lining.

It was our anniversary yesterday so we went out for Thai, and very nice too. Lucky we'd got over Saturday's hangover. :-P

And in kitten news: Jasmin and Vic are now playing, which is a relief as I was a bit worried that if something happens to Claudia (who does have kidney disease) we'd have to get another cat as company for her. This is great though because the girls always shut Vic out and at last he'll have a playmate too. I have yet to see them cuddle, but I've found Jasmin and Claudia snuggled together a few times. :-) She's settling in very well, and follows me around like Tessa used to. We haven't let her out yet though as she doesn't yet come consistently when called.

Happy anniversary for yesterday :0)

I am glad that Jasmin and Vic are playing, it's good she's settled in now.

:-D Thank you!

And I should go to bed. I have to be up early tomorrow. :-P

Vic joined the pride when the girls were more or less adults didn't he? He probably finds it much easier to make friends with a kitten, who will basically play with any thing that moves, than with two adult cats who were set in their ways. In her days as foster mum for the CPL Sue always found the males of her pride were much more friendly to the new kittens than the female. The ones that played with them most were the two red Setters she and her husband had at the time, especially the old boy who would usually end up laying down with how ever many kittens she had climbing all over him and chewing various bits of fur and him licking them until they needed to be dried with a towel.

It was odd, and not really like that. Vic took a while to be at ease with her, and Jasmin was a bit wary of him. Yet she loved Claudia from the start, even though Claudia gets annoyed at the constant tackles. Jasmin playing with Vic, which has only happened in the last few days, is a new thing and takes the pressure off poor Claudia who was starting to get a bit defensive.

But yes, Vic was always very much on the outer because the girls were adults and already close friends. Claudia will never really like him, though she tolerates him.

Sounds more like Animal Park with a new lion cub being introduced to the pride by mum. They are very wary of the pride male for a while, cub and mum, and he doesn't play with the cub at first, it's almost as if they are all waiting for the cub to develop a few muscles and be less likely to be hurt in a rough and tumble with a big muscled male.

Cats have their own personalities. We have one male who immediately adopts any kitten. The others though needed time to get used to any new interloper.
It sounds like Jasmin has definitely integrated well.
We never let ours out unless they came to call - or came charging up at the rattle of the dried food.

Hope you have good luck on the job search.

Hmm. Jasmin might be inside for a while, then. She does come now, but only when it suits her. She'll chase anything dragged though, so perhaps this weekend we'll give her a little supervised outing.

Thanks! I must ring the agencies again now I'm available.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Well if she won't come to call the only real alternative is see if she can be harness trained.
Peri is not very good at coming to call when she is outside so we let her out on a harness and an extendible dog lead which allows her the run of the entire garden.

Harness training is relatively simple if you get the small dog variety harness with the two hoops and quick release catches. For some reason cat harnesses are easier to wriggle out of than dog harnesses! Make sure fitting is snug but not too tight.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I was considering a harness, but I'd be worried she'd get tangled in the lead. Besides, eventually she'll have to be able to go out the cat door during the day when we're at work. Thanks for the tips; I'll have a look in the pet supplies supermarket.

Happy anniversary! Want more pictures of the kitty cuddling. :D

I do have some, but as yet none good enough to post. I should take some of her and Vic playing. She's so funny to watch; she uses a cardboard box as a fort and refuge, but it's getting less effective as she gnaws bits off.

Happy Anniversary.

And good to know that Jasmin is settling in with the others.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
She is! I was worried at first because she was so scared the first couple of days, but she's fearless and full of mischief now.

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I love seeing snuggles! When we had two sets of sisters we used to get wonderful cat heaps.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
I shall have to get some decent pics. There haven't been that many snuggles though; Jasmin's too playful and Claudia too outraged by the sheer impudence. ;-)

Happy Anniversary! I'm glad the kitties are settling down together now.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
They are! I'm really glad Vic's being included at last too.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Eeeee, Vic has a playmate! That is lovely to hear.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
It makes me very happy. The poor guy was left out by the girls, and Claudia always kept him in his place. He tried to play with Tessa but he frightened her. Jasmin's ready for anything. :-)

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Some nice time, I hope...
And I am glad your cats are settled together nicely .

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
We just had a meal out, which is always pleasant. :-)

I'm pleased with how well Jasmin's settled in, and that Vic might have a friend now.

Hooray! Glad to hear the kitties are doing well.

[identity profile] pinkdormouse.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for happy kitties!

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Happy anniversary! (seems to be a popular month for it :-)

Awww. Poor Vic. I hope he finds joy in Jasmine's company.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
He does! He was a starving stray when we found him and he only learned to purr and play from watching the girls, but now he has a playmate. :-)

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Happy anniversary yesterday (er, two days ago, for you)!

I'm glad that Vic is accepting Jasmin - that's good for both of them. I hope it won't be too long before you can let Jasmin out - it must be worrying to have to keep an eye on her, sometimes.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

I think we'll give her a supervised outing this weekend. At least she chases anything dragged, so we'll be able to capture her. That was our trick with Tessa when she wouldn't come in, but she learned the subterfuge very quickly. Jasmin hasn't yet.
