Melbourne Cup

I'm not a gambler, but it's the Melbourne Cup today so I went out in the rain and made my annual bet, this time on two horses (plus random extras in the quinella etc):

  • Blue Monday (because yesterday was so awful in several ways)
  • Scorpion (because it's only one letter off the B7 season 4 rustbucket; I hope it has a stardrive--sorry, Plaxton)
If either of them come through, we're eating out tonight!

The icon is for Delta Blues who did so well for me last year. :-)

The Melbourne Cup, for those who don't know, is the race event of the year for Australians and NZers and to me it usually means summer is on its way (though not today; shiver).

Sounds like the Grand National here in the UK.
God luck and hope at least one wins!

Yes, I think it's pretty much the equivalant here. And thanks!

I'm getting Sis to put my bets on, for Purple Moon (simply because I liked the name) and something that I said yesterday I liked, can't recall and hope she does remember... :)

Serious gambler material I ain't.

I was rather attracted by Purple Moon, but I thought two were enough. :-)

Good luck!

Thanks!

Alas, you should have picked Purple Moon. It still didn't win, but you would have got something for your efforts.

I did have Purple Moon, but it was more because I told Mum I'd have 50 cents each way on two of the list of horses she couldn't decide between, and she picked that one instead.

That'll teach me to pick a bad day and an S4 ship. :-P

S4 has been blamed for a lot of things, but I've not heard that one before...

Hey, it equals constant defeat! ;-)

Ah, not being a gambler either I actually organise the office sweep. Last year I was a winnner with Delta Blues. This year I had Black Tom which is interesting in a Drake's Venture perspective. Black Tom had as much hope as Thomas Doughty! All good fun though and the harbour cruise was great.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-11-06 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
My current work doesn't do a sweepstake, but I did win one once. And a harbour cruise is a win for everyone. :-)

I always put a £1 each way on two horses in the Grand National. I don't know why I bother because I haven't won anything in 40 years. They either pull up or fall, people ask me what I've chosen so they can avoid them.%). Did you win?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. I'd have done a post of joy if I had. :-P
