Welcome, Jasmin!

We got our new kitten, Jasmin, on Sunday. She was very scared when we got her home, never having been in a car, or away from her litter mates and her mother before, but at least she was eating and using the litter (though not always) which was a good sign; some kittens go off their food. She spent the night in our bedroom, but mainly behind some of my clothes on a shelf. She explored yesterday and met both cats (Claudia being unimpressed as I expected; it took her two weeks to get to love Tessa) and Vic being quite interested). By evening she was feeling relaxed enough to purr when I cuddled her, and to play with a knitting needle.

Last night she was on my pillow, and in the morning had a snuggle under my chin. She had a big game of tubes after breakfast (like all our cats, she loves playing with a length of computer cable with the wires removed) and I even got an action shot!

When we arrived at Patsy's, her opal-eyed Bengal boy, Jonta, greeted us. We had to stop and admire him and stroke his fur.

Jonta on a climbing platform

A shot showing his spotted coat.

Patsy has two miniature horses, so I took a picture for those I know will be interested.

Jasmin over Patsy's shoulder as she says goodbye. Her eyes are golden, but the stripes on Patsy's shirt are reflected in them. :-)

Action Jasmin! I had the tube in one hand and the camera in the other, and this was the best of a blurry lot!

That is the cutest, grumpiest-lookin' kitten ever. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, she's not grumpy! It's just her markings; they're a bit frowny. Actually she mostly looks surprised at all the new stuff in her life.

Perhaps I should have called her Parker, but Greg would never agree. ;-)

Kitties! Horsies!

I am reduced to a melty blob of high-pitched squeeing.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
And I'd never pick you for the squeeing type! :-)

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Awwwwwww, kitten!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
I should go and feed her dinner now; she's been sleeping all afternoon, knackered after all that play.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
OOh, pretties! Jasmin looks so velvety. *virtual pets* And mini horses! EEEEE!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
She is very velvety! With sharp bits. I should clip the points off her tiny claws, but I'm a bit nervous about it when she's so little.

Aaawww... I needed mush today :) and these gorgeous pics fit the bill perfectly.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
She's prettier than she looks in these, too.
trixieleitz: An otter gazes at you with an interested smile on her face. (otter!)

Wonderful photos! Jasmin looks like she has heaps of character - I hope you will all be very happy :)

And Jonta is a very beautiful boy, and omg mini horsies!!!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
You have to wait a couple of days to see a new kitten's character, but she's a playful ball of energy now, and a purry snuggly little thing when she's (more rarely) in a quiet mood.

Jonta is gorgeous, and so friendly. Bengals like to "love with their feet on the ground" as Patsy calls it; they don't like being picked up or sitting on laps, but will come for strokes and sit on your feet. :-)

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
That action shot is great!
We're all rather smitten By Jonta, as well, who is really very striking-looking. What a lucky friend you have - all those cats AND ponies!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
Bengals are magnificent. I'd never seen them before, and I'd like to have one, but they're expensive. She had too marbled kittens though which will be harder to home as people want them with spots. I actually thought the marbling was quite stunning. Here's a picture I found online (http://lh6.ggpht.com/mjbmeister/R7yCsHNBphI/AAAAAAAABzk/qePo_3gtD08/s400/bengal-cat-ss6.jpg) of a marbled Bengal.

Aww. Looks like she's going to develop into one badass kitty. She's got a good scowl going on already:D.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
It's her markings and the little ridges in her forehead, which Greg calls Claudia's Zen garden. Jasmin's is more noticeable because her markings accentuate them. She's a little sweetie really. :-)

People used to think Tessa was mean because of the slant of her gold eyes, but she was much gentler than Claudia. Burmese do look a bit fierce when they're playing. I 'll have to take one of her asleep, but she wakes up when I come near her. And she knows when I'm talking to or about her and comes running!

[identity profile] ultrapsychobrat.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh...beautiful baby girl! She's so plushy--love her toes!! Happiness to you all.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
She's very plush, and all lion-coloured on top (she'll go darker) and pale underneath. So cute!

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, she looks a bit grumpy, but absolutely gorgeous!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
She only looks it! She's a playful and sweet little thing really. I'll have to get pictures of her in repose. :-)

[identity profile] bramblyhedge.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Both kitties have such amazingly gorgeous eyes! =^.^=

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
They do! I think Jasmin's will turn out as golden as Tessa's were.

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I love the look of concentration on her face in the play one. I've seen it a thousand times in human babies when face with something new that might be fun but they not quite sure how. Jasmin is a gorgeous little girl who will grow up into a beauty. It's strange, Sue has the same thing happen when she introduces a new puppy to the pack, the girls just don't want to know it, babies aren't for them, while the boys take it under their wings and show it all the interesting, i.e. dirty smelly awful, places in the garden.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the expression is emphasised by her markings anyway: little stripes above her eyes and fine indentations between her ears. Claudia will get used to her, and I hope in a couple of weeks will be cuddling her as she did with that little upstart Tessa.

[identity profile] san-valentine.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pleased to hear that Jasmin's starting to settle in, and the others aren't too hostile. She has lovely golden eyes and chocolate is one of my favourite Burmese colours.

I'm not too keen on the whole 'mini horses' thing, but those two are much better quality than a lot of those I've seen photos of. Some are just ghastly genetic train wrecks, bred mostly for being a 'ky-ute kolor'. That two in your photo actaully look like real, well-made, healthy ponies.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Chocolate is a lovely colour (though I always think it should be coffee), and she'll darken up till her face is quite brown, going by adult chocolates I've seen.

I don't know much about horses, but I thought at first that they were little ponies. I think Patsy said they were mother and daughter.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
Jesus, she is such a lovely darling! And how concentrating she is on her work! Those paws, and golden eyes, yes...mmmmm...I wish you happy life with her!
Also thanks for the cute horsies...and Jont+
รค the Aristocrat!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Greg said she looks like a Jedi with a light sabre. :-) She's a sweet little thing; I should get some photos of her when she's quiet.

[identity profile] pet-lunatic.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, so cute!

[identity profile] thetisonline.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Welcome Jasmin. It's so exciting watching her reactions. She seems to be settling in really well. Her fur looks beautiful to touch. Congrats on the new family member.

I could look at Jonta's eyes all day!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
She's very velvety and soft (with sharp points). :-)

I gather Jonta has unusual eyes; yellow is more common (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Two_bengal_cats_edit.jpg). Hs are really quite amazing and the first thing I commented on when I met him a few weeks ago.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Those mini horses are great, straight out of Thelwell.

Aww Jasmin is such a sweetie and I'm glad the other two are accepting her. You seemed to have chosen the "right" name for her if she's already coming at the mention of it.
BTW do you pronounce it with a "Y" or "J" (just for curiosity's sake).
I'd love a Bengal of any colouring - I think the marbled ones look like little clouded leopards or margays or marbled cats.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
They are very Thelwell!

I say it with a J. What's intriguing is that I can be talking to Greg, then say something to her (with or without her name) and she'll know and meow at me or come over. :-)

[identity profile] kalypso-v.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
What a funny little thing she is! It seems she's accepted you as her new mother, at least, and I think she's adapting more quickly than Rosie and Tabitha when they first arrived here - maybe because she's so young and not settled in her ways. I hope Claudia decides she's a charming little playmate soon, and you'll all settle down in your new configuration! Strokes to all three cats from me, and purrs from Tabitha (who's just come in with very muddy paws) and Rosie!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Claudia learned to love Tessa, but it took a couple of weeks. We were worried about Vic, but he just seems interested (and a little cautious).

Strokes to Tabitha and Rosie. I always show your posts about them to Greg; such dear little girls. :-)

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Aaaaaaw!

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
She's sweet! Love the fluffy trousers. And that Bengal boy's eyes are unbelievable. Thanks for the pics.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The trousers are her knees, and she's fluffier underneath. She's got very close, silky fur right now, but she'll get more later, like Claudia and Tessa did.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Jonta is beautiful - I really like Bengals, though I'm not sure that I would ever have one. Jasmin, though, is gorgeous! That last photo is making me smile a lot.

I'm glad that it sounds as though she's settling in a bit, and I hope that it'll go ok with getting on with the others.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Bengals don't like being picked up or sitting on laps, but they ones I met were very friendly and came over eager for strokes. Patsy says they will sit at or on your feet, but I like a cuddly cat.

Jasmin's much more confident every day. She was so scared when she arrived, we were worried about her, but she's getting very playful and cheeky now.

[identity profile] jecono.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww - the cutest kitty ever! Although I must admit that her face looks a bit grumpy... still, sooo cute! :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-29 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I will have to take more pictures, because she really is the sweetest little thing. Maybe when she's sleepy and not wildly playing. :-)

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2008-10-29 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Aww... lovely kitteh. I'm sure she'll be a great addition to your home. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-10-29 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
She is already! She's funny and affectionate, and rather sudden at times. :-)

Strangely foreshortened, but she's very cute! Claudia at the same age was rather scrawny and strange, and known as The Kitten From Outer Space. I should scan and post a couple of her more alien photos. She grows more beautiful all the time though. :-)
